Dining plan questions

We arrive in Disney next week and have free dining. I have a couple of questions.

1. We have 6 ADR's and only 5 credits, so we plan to pay out of pocket for one. I know I want to choose the cheapest one, so I am choosing our breakfast at zhollywood & Vine on our second day. Can I tell our server not to use a dining credit for this meal, or will it automatically happen?

2. Can they split the check up if we decide to order other items that are not included in the dining plan...for example, alcoholic drinks at Ohana?

3. Does a child get an appetizer from the kid's menu with the dining plan...or entree and dessert only like adults?

They automatically charge items not on the dining plan on a separate check. As for paying out of pocket you can charge to your room but one time the server charged it to our room instead of deducting dining plan credits like we asked and somehow our resort automatically reversed the charges and deducted from the dining plan without us even asking them to "fix" it. But another time DH asked for it to be billed to the room and not deducted from our table service credits and it worked out fine. Personally to be safe I would pay cash or use a credit card to avoid any confusion.

At TS restaurants the server usually asks right after you're seated if you're on the dining plan. At that time you can tell him/her that you'll be paying OOP.

Anything you order that is not covered by the dining plan such as alcohol, appetizers, specialty beverages will be on a separate check and you can pay for them however you wish.

Best way to address the child allotment now, is that the child gets what is on the kids' menu. If the kids' menu allows them to pick three courses, they can pick three courses, but it has to be from the kids' menu.
