I apologize if this is old news, but I was just reading a post on easywdw, and Josh mentioned that "you can now sub your non-alcoholic beverage or dessert for any item designated as a snack on the Disney Dining Plan." So this means that if we don't want dessert at our QS lunch, we can get a snack instead as part of our QS meal? Don't get me wrong, I love Disney desserts, but I don't want one at every meal! TIA:flower1:

No one really knows how this will work out. It seems as if individual restaurants can now make substitutions but the choices are theirs, but Disney has not made anything official

This is now listed on the Disney Dining Brochure, so it should be a good-to-go. The problem will be what snack items are available. Most QS places don't have a whole lot of snack items on the menu, and you will have to make the substitution at that place.

From what they are saying at a QS place you can get anything they have marked as a snack (at the same QS...you can't go to a different QS or snack place to get your snack, everything must be done in the same location). For TS, there are specific substitution items the restaurant will offer.

This is a neat idea though. Especially in Epcot where they have all of those countries that aren't big on sweets! There are sometimes "savory" snack options, so if you go to China and they don't really have a huge awesome dessert menu, you can just add egg rolls to your meal! For adults, I feel like this adds more bang to your buck. Much better than having that one pitiful brownie square that EVERYONE around you has because it's one option, out of like, two.

Note that it's listed in the 2016 dining plan brochure, but they didn't update the 2015 brochure, so some CM's might not be fully trained or willing to accomodate the change yet.

I really hope this gets confirmed for this year. My husband will be thrilled he's not a big dessert person & even I get tired of the same dessert over and over

My understanding is you can substitute your QS desert for any other side item that is offered.

I will be really happy if I can get French onion soup at our BOG lunch instead of a cupcake! Don't get me wrong - I like cupcakes, but we don't need 4 of them for our family. Two and two soups would do nicely!

I'm liking this possibility... thinking about maybe getting soup or chili at some place that offers that... more like having an appetizer to replace a dessert at a quick service... the egg roll idea sounds good too! :)
