Can I use a dining credit for other people in my party that are not on my room?
Does that make sense?

It does but it is no longer allowed. If your room key says 2 adults and 1 child thats all the meals you can get at 1 time.

The DDP policy is that you may not share your dining credits with people who are not on your reservation.

It is also the policy that you cannot order more meals of each type in one transaction than you have designated on your resort room key. As the previous poster mentioned, if you have two adults and one child on the dining plan listed on your room key, you will be able to use the dining plan to order a maximum of two adult meals and one child meal. If you order meals in addition to that, they will be paid for out of pocket.
