Dining plan question: appetizer instead of dessert

Can you ever get an appetizer instead of getting dessert on the DP? I want to get a Caesar Salad at MM and have no interest in dessert..... just wondering..... Thanks!

Are you doing Mama Melrose in the Fantasmic Dining Package?

IF you buy a Fantasmic Dining Package - then you get appetizer and dessert, because an appetizer is part of the Dining Package.

The difference is because your credit is paying for a package (Meal and Seats for Fantasmic). The meal is part of that Package, and the meal with the package includes appetizer.

If you pay for your meal with just a credit at Mama Melrose (not using the Dining Package) then you only are entitled to an entree and dessert.

The Fantasmic Dining package costs 1 credit, just like a meal, and nobody will hold a gun to your head forcing you to go to Fantasmic that night if something comes up and you can't make it.

Just some food for thought.

But the CM who books you might tell you ,you have a choice! I just looked into adding the DP to my reservation since I paid my trip off today. I got a great code & saved over $800.00 & was checking to see if the DP would be discounted.

I am not sure I understand what you're saying. Are you saying that the CM told you that you have a choice between the appetizer and dessert? If a dining CM told you this they are 100% wrong and a restaurant will not honor what the CM told you today.

There is no choice between appetizer and dessert.

I'm saying the CM who books you might tell you that you do have a choice. I was told this evening this is an option. I know it is not but they are still saying it 9 months into this 2008 Plan!

That's the hard thing about message boards, sometimes tone gets lost in the translation when you read. I missed the exasperation in your original post.

TRUE that CM's are notoriously bad at giving correct information. I had one get in a fight with me about a restaurant where gratuity would be included in the price of my meal. I knew they were wrong, but it wasn't worth fighting with them anymore. I just paid my gratuity when we ate there in March and was happy that I found message boards vs trusting CM's.

For those reading this, the above is not correct information according to all reports. WDW is not permitting substitution of appetizers for desserts on the basic plan in 2008 under any circumstances.

If it IS true, it'll be all over the boards within a very short time, but I doubt it.

I did not say your post wasn't true. I said the information the CM gave you was inaccurate in an attempt to cut down on other readers thinking they could get a choice between appetizer and dessert because a CM told you you could.

The information the CM gave you IS inaccurate according to all posted reports.

I think everyone just wanted it to be crystal clear that this is not a possibility. This is one of the most popular questions/rumors and clearing up misconceptions can take a long time - especially if someone just reads a post and takes it as the truth. CM's do give out bad information sometimes (as you ran into and you knew it was bad information) However, sometimes those CM's give bad information to someone who doesn't know better. The person who doesn't know better sometimes comes here to share their good news OR (and worse) they go to Disney expecting their information is correct.

I didn't mean anything against you when I first asked, I just wanted to be super clear.

I'm not sure I understand why you feel that way. Neither you, nor what you posted, is being questioned. People BELIEVE that's what you were told!!!! But, what you were told is incorrect, and so the information itself is what's being corrected - so that some person reading this thread doesn't then go to, say, Mama Melrose's and complain, "But a Cast Member in dining reservations told them we DO have a choice - give me my salad!"
