Dining Plan Help :)

I am heading to WDW with my three kids for a few days during February school vacation. We have a room booked at POP for three nights with a room only discount. Would I now be able to add the dining plan? What is the minimum number of park day tickets I would need to buy? We were planning only one park day. My kids are 15, 12 and 9 - What would the cost be if I am able to do this? Thank you!

I would call Disney reservatons and ask them right away, as I have been told that you had to add dining a certain mumber of days before your arrival...we had to buy only one day ticket (they try to sell you more!) for our package but ours was free quick service dining and three night stay (full nondiscounted room rate)...good luck!

To the best of my knowledge, if you add a dining plan, you will lose the room only discount and your room rate will be the rack rate. As far as park tickets, I think you have to have buy a minimum of 2 park days.

I would check around on the boards, there are some free dining codes out there. Maybe there is one out there valid for your stay and if you a persistant enough, you might find a CM that will willingly allow you to use it (like I did for our upcoming vacation).

You can add the dining plan up to 72 hours before your check in date. The dining plan is not connected to your tickets or the number of days on your tickets. The dining plan is based on the number of nights you are staying at your resort. So, if you are booked for 3 nights then you would purchase/pay for 3 nights/days of the dining plan. Here are the 2012 DDP prices:

Quick Service Dining Plan
Adults: $34.99 | Children: $11.99

Basic Dining Plan
Adults: $51.54 (regular season) | $53.54 (peak season*)
Children: $15.02 (regular season) | $16.02 (peak season*)

Deluxe Dining Plan
Adults: $85.52 (regular season) | $89.52 (peak season*)
Children: $23.79 (regular season) | $25.79 (peak season*)

*Peak Seasons: 2/16/12 - 2/25/12, 3/09/12 - 4/14/12, 6/1/12 - 8/4/12, 12/21/12 - 12/31/12

I'm sorry, but your information is incorrect. You must be thinking of Free Dining promotions. You don't lose your room discount if you add free dining to a package. If you apply a free dining discount, and already have a room discount then you would lose your room discount - but not by simply adding on the dining plan to a reservation. Also, you only have to purchase a minimum 2 day base ticket, again, in the instance of a free dining promo, not a regular Magic Your Way package with dining. To purchase a MYW package with dining all you have to purchase is a 1 day base ticket.

Also, the OP is going to WDW during a peak crowd season, there are no free dining pin code or any past free dining offers that she could have applied to her trip.

Free Dining packages have different booking guidelines than regular Magic Your Way packages. Free Dining packages require a 3 night minimum resort booking and also require a 2 day base ticket. A regular MYW package with dining requires a 1 night minimum resort booking and 1 day base ticket.

Disgirl's pricing is 100% correct.
With only 1 "Disney kid" and apparently 3 Disney-adults....
You should carefully consider whether any of the dining plans make sense.
Unless you are eating 2-3 character dinners, it's unlikely dining plan math would make sense for you. The basic dining plan would be over $500 for the 3 nights.
