I am wondering if anybody has used the dining plan while eating vegan, if you have did you feel that there was value in the plan or do you believe that you would have been better of paying oop?
Thanks
We used it back in 2013, one of us is vegan and one isn't. We did feel that it was worth it, but only because we were on free dining, so I had nothing to actually compare it to. But, the dishes that she received she did enjoy mostly. Also, some things are very worth it, such as: Boma is very good for vegan food, it's a buffet and probably costly, so it would be worth it. Trails End, if you get Chef TJ (sun-thurs) you will get an incredible meal, but it's not guaranteed.
The counter service, if you hit up the right places, would be worth it but you have to do some research to find them.
It's been several years, but in 2010 we went with my niece who is vegan. At the vast majority of restaurants, the chef would come out and talk to her, then make her a special dish that wasn't on the menu. So I don't know how much it would have cost if we had been paying OOP, but it was no problem using a DDP credit for it. My guess is that it's not necessarily a good value, simply because vegetarian entrees are usually the cheapest on the menu, so unless there is a surcharge for the chef doing something off-menu, the cost is probably well below the average that the DP assumes and is based on.
