Dining plan for only part of a trip?

I got the same stern warning. I segmented my trip on Friday. I asked politely the process and if a supervisor was available to help. She got one, put me on hold for about 3 minutes (listening to It's a great big beautiful tomorrow while on hold) and then came back and told me I should have done this when I made the reservation and in the future they won't do this. I just said ok, and didn't tell her I couldn't because I made the reservation 11 months out.

I segmented my 7 day like this: Day 1 DxDP, Days 2-5 none, Day 6 DxDp, Day 7 none. This way I can use DxDP credits Day 1 and 2/Day 6 and 7.

So on what days will you need to check-out and re check-in?

If you do one linked, segmented reservation you don't have to check in and out. If MS tells you that call ack and speak to someone else.

While technically I will need to check-in and out, practically all I need to do is go to the front desk and get new KTTW cards.

I will need to check-in on Day 1 (obviously) these will have the DxDP on them and then on Day 2 go to the front desk and get new KTTW cards without DxDP through day 5, then again on Day 6 to to the front desk to get new cards with DxDP. The reservation is still one reservation and you do not have to fully check-in and out.

Do you mind me asking how you segmented your trip out? I am doing a 7 night stay in Sept. And I would like to do the deluxe plan 3 nights of our trip but not on consecutive nights. So if the first night I want the DDP and the second night I do not would I then have to check in and out on the day that I had no dining plan?

I would like to email and ask them to segment as well just wondering if you need to check in/out everytime there is a new dining plan or if it's everytime there is a change so even on the days where you switch from having the dining plan to not having it.

We are staying for 5 nights. Our first two nights are at BWV and the last 3 are at BLT.

I simply sent them the email and said "I am thinking of adding one of the dining plans to some of my nights for my August reservation. I would like to segment my two nights at BWV so night 1 is separate from night 2. I would then like to segment my first night at BLT from nights 2 and 3 at BLT.

If you can do this without any risk that I will lose my reservation, please do this."

That was it! Now, when I look at my reservation (got the email), it says "August 10th - 1 night 2 bedroom BW view , linked with XXXXX", August 11th, 2 bedroom BW view - 1 night".

August 12th - 1 night BLT SV 2 bedroom linked with XXXX, August 13th - 2 nights BLT SV 2 bedroom". Check out on August 15th.

I am not sure about the check in/out. Since we were switching resorts anyway, one of the days I am planning on adding the DxDDP was this day.

Everything is under one reservation # so at most, I think I will have to get new keys. Hopefully, some of the glitches that happened in December are fixed by them.

We have nine nights booked in June, but am thinking of adding the Deluxe Dining Plan for just 4 or 5 of those nights. It sounds like emailing may be the way to go in order for this to be a smooth transition. Of course I also have two other rooms booked under this reservation...and not sure if they will be adding dining as well but I assume they don't have to do so.

I thought the dining plan had to be paid in advance, or can you just pay for it at check-in now? :confused3

If Disney is allowing segmented reservations - wouldn't it be easier for Disney to allow DVC members to add the Dining Plans to their ressies for the amount of nights we wanted?

I understand going the full reservation model for those staying on cash - but we have already shown our loyalty - wouldn't this be a win/win perk for everyone?

we are here now and tried the part dining and it was a disaster. We will never do it again. The manager said the problem that MS is doing is linking the reservations. Because our reservation was linked it caused major problems. And we also had to check out and check in at least 3 times during the first 24 hours. There's a link describing the bad experiences several of us have had. We had night 1 with the delux ddp and the next 12 nights room only. Sounds simple? Not so fast. According to the manager if your reservation is linked you will have problems. If your reservations stay as separate ones you would be OK. Even though ours was linked (which originally was not linked but got linked during an upgrade) we still had to check in and check out, but never had to change rooms. We are on cards #5 and #6 for the 2 of us now.

Here's my post from another thread:

We tried to use the credits and the CM's would have to override the system. We would show up and tonight at LeCellier and they told us our card would not work and they had to authorize the charge by calling the resort. We checked in yesterday and had to recheck in today to get a new room card. we just got back to our room after leaving the front desk and they had to rebook my entire reservation. I'm off to check DVC to see if my points are right. This was a real PITA. Something so easy turned into a mess. Good luck to anyone who trys to do this. The last 24 hours have been consumed with wondering will my card work this time, will I get accidently charged to my account, why are there credits missing and visits to the front desk. Ugh.

I wanted to add more info. When we originally checked in my card said "DVC multiple" and my DH's card said "DVC Delux DDP". My DH's card did not work and after several visits to the front desk the advice the manager gave us was to only use my card. When trying to dine the CMs did not want to accept my word that I had the delux ddp. I even tried to show the CM at LeCellier my receipt from my lunch where I got the delux ddp and the CM would not even look at my receipts. The manager had to call the resort and came back and told me they closed my account. It took several calls and a stressful dinner to get it all straighten out. When we got back to the resort (OKW) we went to the front desk and again tried to figure out what was going on. By the time we were done our entire reservation was rebooked and we were then given our 5th and 6th room card within 24 hours of arriving. We were also given a $50 credit to our account for all of the problems (which was nice and not expected). And let me tell you about housekeeping. Boy are they a mess. Day 2 we got a full cleaning and on Day 4 we got another full cleaning. We are in a studio and have more clean towels and washclothes than we've ever seen. We have no idea when we are scheduled for T&T again. 2 full cleanings in 4 days was alot. We think it has to do with the rebooking of our reservatios. We are here 13 nights, so I know we get 2 FC and 2 TT. Crazy. Well we are off to EPCOT and have been using our TiW card now and find this is a better fit for us. No stress of using dining credits and whether or not our card will work! It's all good.

I recommended the same thing in another thread and kinda got blasted. Comments like "Disney is not a charitable, benevolent organization". Beware the flames.

I feel like you do. We spend a lot of money and one of the perks could be the purchase of meal credits in allotments of 3's. Those could be put on our card and expire on midnight of checkout day.

bumping back up for those who are planning to do a part ddp reservation. I hope they get it worked out. MS told me there would be no problem, but as you see from my post is was a mess. My mousekeeping was equally a mess too.

Thanks n2mm. I will post back my experiences too.

I will take all my receipts from check-in with me when dining, if that might help.

I hope they work this out as well. We go back to WDW in July 2012 and I hope they work this out. Still not totally sure what we will do...I don't know if I will know that for sure when we book this coming August either. We might want to wait until next January when we make our ADRs to see what fits us best (combo of dining plans, or upgrade to AP and TIW card). Mousekeeping doesn't bother me as much as it would bother me to go to a restaurant and they tell me we don't have any credits, when they were in fact paid for already.

I really hope it isn't a problem for us. MS assured me it wouldn't be but now I am questioning it. I am wondering if I should call again and have them double check everything to make sure we are all set. Errrr. They designed the stupid thing so I don't see why it is having all these problems. They also did not tell me I needed to go get new keys on the days I do have the dxddp.
