Dining plan for half our trip?

We are tent camping at the fort for 8 days. I wanted the dining plan for four days so we could do the Hoop Dee Doo and Mickeys Backyard BBQ. It would also be good for the times where I might be too tired to cook. I know the DP is based on the number of days you are staying. Does anyone think it will be a good idea to reserve for four days with four days DP, then extend the vacation? Or does this sound like a bad idea?

Sure, why not. Book the first four days with the dining plan, then have a continuing reservation as room only.

You have to purchase at least a 1-day ticket with the dining plan (unless you are an annual passholder). Fortunately you can purchase any amount of ticket you want and it is not tied to your reservation.

So, for example, book the first 4 days with the dining plan and a 7 or 8 day ticket, then you would start a new reservation 4 days later. Your tickets are still good, but no more dining plan.

Have the reservations linked and remind them a few days ahead of time that you want to stay in the same site.

Then on the morning when you change reservations, just go to the front desk and get new KTTW cards.

Thanks!

...but something I didn't think about... I can only use the dining plan credits for four days? In other words, I wanted to stay the eight days, but wanted to use the credits throughout. I guess Disney has an expiration on the credits like if I have the four day dining plan, then at the end of the four days they are expired.

Exactly, the dining plan would have to be used the first 4 days.

Ah right - that throws a kink into the plan then. Your dining credits will expire on the "checkout" day for the 4 day package. Unless you take a lot of doggie bags and eat leftovers the rest of the trip. ;)

Might be a moot point, but also keep in mind that DDP is tied to the number of nights of your stay, not the days.
