We are planning a trip that will include my family (me, wife and two girls), my sister, and my parents. A total of 7 people. My sister and parents will be getting the seasonal AP passes since they live in Florida and my family will just buy the package tickets. We will be booking the Villa or set of rooms together. How would we go about getting the dining package? Would the AP's need also have to at least get a day pass to qualify or can they just not get the dining plan and only my fam of 4 get the plan. This whole mixed trip is getting confusing for me.

OK, here is what I understand. If you are making one reservation, everyone must be on the same package.

So, if you are going to book a villa and all stay there, you all have to be on the package, which includes the tickets, so I don't think getting 5 or however many days for you and only 1 day for them would work.

On the other hand, if you make 2 separate reservations at the same resort, then they can use the AP's with no dining and you can book the package with the people in your room.

When you say "Villa" do you mean DVC? If so, it does not matter what type of passes the party has to book the dinning plan in the DVC villas, just has to be the entire party for the entire length of stay on the dinnning plan.

I have a question. We are DVC members and plan on staying 7 nights. Do we have to purchase the dining plan for 7 nights or can we get it for fewer days?

No, sorry, the dinning plan for DVC members (or anyone for that matter!) is for the entire party registered to a villa for the entire length of stay. You get one snack, one counter service, and one sitdown service per NIGHT of the stay.

However, if you split your stay (such as 2 nights in a studio, 5 nights in a 1br OR 2 nights at VWL and 5 nights at BCV) you can purchase the dinning plan for one portion or the other. Your credits will start at checkin for the portion you booked it for, and end at midnight the day of check out from the portion you booked it for. You would not be able to use them over the entire 7 days.

You can always just get 1 day tickets for everyone to make it a package and later upgrade them at the parks to however many days you want and your sister and parents can upgrade to SPs. As long as its more than what was originally purchased. Meaning you can't go from a 10 day ticket to a SP because a SP is cheaper than a 10 day ticket.
