Dining Plan Commitment

Can someone please confirm for me as I'm getting conflicting information. We currently have a room and dining plan package booked at AKL CL for 12/13-17. We have APs so there are no tickets included as part of the package. Currently, we have the basic dining plan but are considering upgrading to deluxe (I'm still on the fence for this). When can we upgrade or what is the cut off is to upgrade (I'll have myself sold on the plan for sure if I can save the money or the majority). Can I call the week before to upgrade or even pay the difference in cash upon check in?

The dining plan dilema-I'd like to do at least one TS meal/day while we're there. On 12/14 we're doing CRT which will take 2 TS credits leaving me with two more for the four days we're left at the parks. I'm thinking (if my research is correct) the DDP will give us three meal credits and two snack credits and the meal credits can be used for TS or CS correct???? I won't have much of a problem using them on CS as opposed to TS-we cannot eat every meal TS as my boys are 4 and 2 when we're there. This would not work for us. I like the idea of having it paid for and not trying to guess at the cost of each meal and hoping we have enough saved.

So thoughts and/or suggestions are welcome!

If you want to do the DxDDP because you'd like more from the plan than what you are getting and want to add more TS - then go for it!

Otherwise, it may be less expensive for you to pay OOP for CRT. CRT is not a very good deal on the DDP to begin with.

If it's not cost and you want to eat more and do more then I'd upgrade.

if the plan works for you except for 2 oop meals, i would not upgarde. Crunch the numbers, see if the cost upgrade is worth it for where you plan to eat

Just remember you have to decide at least 72 hours from travel

You can't upgrade on-site. My TS told me you can upgrade and pay up to 3 days before arrival.

I had the same dilemma before we decided to upgrade so I created a spreadsheet and ran the numbers to determine if it was worth the cost. For us (2 adults), DxDP made more sense and will save us almost $500 but we are only planning on 6 CS credits out of that. If we were using more CS, I'm not sure it would be as great of a deal.

Thanks everyone! I need to go back and check my credit card statement now that I think about it-did I pay for CRT when we booked it??? If so, it's already paid for (from the credit card) so maybe this is a non-issue? Why do I stress about Disney when I have the DIS???
