Dining Plan at Disneyland

I'm planning a trip to DL and was wondering if someone could compare the Dining plan at WDW vs DL. My family and I have done both the Basic Dining plan and the Quick Service meal plan at WDW. My family DID NOT like the Basic plan. It was too much time away from the park and making ressies was just too much for us. We LOVED the quick service plan. We spent an entire week and only had burgers and fries once (the day we departed). With that said I'm a little confused with the dining plans offered by DL. Any help would be great.

ETA: I guess I need to mention that I'd get the 3 day plan - Donald's Disney plan.

The dining plan at DLR is a voucher system and does not save any money. If what you order costs more than the voucher, you pay the difference. If it costs less, you do not get change. If you want to pre-pay for food, put it on gift cards.

I second that. In all the years I have been going to DL, I have never found a compelling reason to get the dining plan. We did use it in WDW, but DL's version is just not worth it to us.

Mousesavers.com says not to bother with it. I have used it at WDW and found it to be a great savings for our family, but without a discount at DL, I am not going to bother on our trip there.

Can we use the Disney Dining card in DL? I remember the Dining Cards being used in WDW.

The gift cards is a good idea, I wish I had thought of that last year, we came home with vouchers and nothing to do with them other then to scrapbook. The only thing we got were Character breakfast vouchers this year.
