We are staying at our "home" in Animal Kingdom for 10 days. We will be going to universal for 2 of those days and we would like to get the Disney Dining Plan. Do we have to pay for the entire length of our stay for dining for can i only get 7 or 8 days matched with our park tickets instead of matched with our length of stay as a DVC member?

Thank you

Are you leaving and sleeping at Universal or are they day trips....??

If you get the dining plan, you have to get it for each night of your stay. The DP is linked to the resort stay NOT to the tickets. You could segment the reservation and plan some nights with the meal plan and some without....

Which meal plan are you getting? If you are getting the regular plan, maybe you can use your quick service for breakfast on the universal days and book some 2 credit dinners for the days you are at Disney...

Just an idea.....

With DVC, you can now segment your reservation and not get the dining plan on part. You may have to check-out an check back in on the days that your plan changes.

I have seen quite a few posts about segmenting the stay, although I don't know the details of doing that. You could just get the plan for the LOS and use the extra TS entitlements to eat at one of the places which requires two entitlements (Brown Derby, LeC for dinner, CRT, Narcoosi's, California Grill). The CS extras could be used for breakfast at the resort.

But the credits still stay with the days they were purchased. So you can't purchase the plan for five nights of a ten night stay and spread the credits around for all ten nights.

So here is the final outcome: We originally booked for 10 days, and were looking to do 7 days of DDP. They basically rebooked the reservation, so on Day 1, no dining plan, days 2 - 7 dining plan and then the last night non. Its all still one, and i will have to go and change rooms keys, but they worked it out. In the future he said, you will need to know this prior to booking. But they did it for us and it all worked out. thanks for all of the posts!!!!
