Dining options via the monorail

On our first day we arrive in the afternoon. I plan on taking the kids to see the park and ride around the monorail to get a view of what's to come. I'd like to plan on having dinner while we are there, something casual is preferred. What options/recommendations are there for places we can walk to from a monorail stop? Thanks

I guess it depends what you mean by casual. Are you looking for CS or TS? CM at the Contemporary for the buffet, Grand Floridian Cafe' (a bit pricey by our standards) or Kona Cafe at the Poly are good for TS.

Ohana at the Poly! Your kids will love it and the food is amazing! It is cheap too!

For buffets(hoping I remember them all), you have Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary(Mickey and friends), 1900 Park Fare at the GF(Cinderella, Prince Charming, etc), and Ohana(family style, not a buffet) at the Poly(no characters but fun stuff for the kids). There's also Kona Cafe at the Poly. I think these are your best bets for TS casual. Others to consider(but not necessarily casual) would be:
Grand Floridian: Narcoosees's, Citrico's, GF Cafe

Contemporary: Cali Grill, The Wave(I know nothing about this place, though I just peeked at the menu..)

Poly: I've named them...

Each resort has their own CS you could do, and for that I would just pull up a menu and see if it has something that sounds good.

My choice for TS (table service-sit down)would be Kona at Poly.

For CS(counter service) Gasparilla Grill and Games (food court) at GF (Grand Floridian) is good. They cook (lunch and dinner) to order.

Captain Cooks (food court) at Poly is pretty good as well-plus they have serve yourself Dole Whips. The beach at Poly is very nice. my DD10 loves playing in the sand (still) and many times after we have dinner at Kona we will go out on the beach and wait for the fireworks and/or the Electric Water Pagaent. A nice way to start a Disney vacation.

I think Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary is a fun place to have dinner the first night. "Ohana at the Poly is also fun. If you have princess fans, you can see Cinderella, the prince, the stepmother and stepsisters at 1900 Park Faire at the Grand Floridian. Lots of good choices along the monorial!

CS = Counter Service
TS = Table Service
CM = Chef Mickey's (can also mean Cast Member, but in this case, it's Chef Mickey's)

CM--Chef Mickey's(which is why I tried to spell out some of them for you, but forgot on a few!)

The "mid-range" dining options you speak of are the ones I listed at first in my previous post. Of course, "mid-range" at WDW price-wise is sky high in the real world. At CM's, Ohana, etc. you will pay between 25 and 30 bucks a person(adult). At places like Kona, The Wave, etc. it will depend on your entree. I recommend looking at menus for prices. Adult entrees at these places AVERAGE 15-20 bucks a person.

I think Chef Mickey's is the best choice for a vacation starter, it is a dinner buffet with Mickey and Friends at the Contemporary Resort.

If you have girls 1900 Park Faire at the Grand Floridian is a good choice, it is a dinner buffet with Cinderella, Prince Charming, Drizella, Anastasia, and Lady Tremaine.

Ohana is also a good choice for a fun family meal at the Polynesian. It is all you can eat grilled meats brought to your table on skewers with a lazy susan of sides in the middle of the table. They also play games and sing in the restaurant.

We did dinner at 1900PF our 1st night. My 3 yr old grand daughter loves the princesses and it was such a special way to start off her first trip to Disney.
We had a wonderful time!
