I called dining reservations yesterday because reservations are missing. The lady on the phone checked and all were there said it had to do w/ maintenance on their system. She told me I had 2 reservations for the same time. I told her it was because I did not know which one we could make but that I would cancel as soon as I knew. She made some sort of grunting noise and I just hung up on her. This morning I called again to try and cancel another reservation and instead of the 9 reservations I should of had, only had 7. the 2 the lady asked me about yesterday were gone and I did not tell her to cancel them. Too bad I cant remember her name. I am pi$$ed and now they are saying they cant do anything about it.

Well, do want us to condoe this behavior?? It is inconsiderate to hold more than one ADR for the same meal, and Disney is craking down on the practice. Good for them!!

I think it's a crock. Do you still have your reservation number?

At this time Disney has no written or known policy that prevents this behavior. As such Disney CMs shouldn't take measures into their own hands. (Even when they're abruptly hung up on)

I would suggest to the OP that you call and try to talk to a supervisor and give them your confirmation numbers to see if they can do anything to help you.

Personally I don't believe in double booking, but it's not up to me or anyone else on the board to attack others who don't adhere to our own personal morals. In situations like this it's best to go by Disney's written rules.

Lots of posters agree with you and me. But, many do not. It is always best to go with the written rules.

The customer service agent probably was not too happy with when you hung up on her. Remembering her name probably won't resolve your problem, will it? Maybe a possible solution would be to nicely address the next customer service person and ask for their help?

I agree! :thumbsup2

I hope they keep cracking down.

Ok, I understand people are saying that Disney does not have a policy about double booking, but then why when you try to book 2 different places for the same time online the website will tell you you already have one booked for that time?

Also, when ADR's started not showing up due to the upgrade of the system, did my TA, who has been in the business for quite awhile, warned me not to try to book again due to if Disney sees it they will cancel the ADR's?

There are a number of stories going around about some, but not all, WDW-DINE phone agents taking it upon themselves to cancel concurrent dining reservations where guests are holding them - and many of the stories are that they cancel both reservations without notice to the guest. There are even a few stories that seem to indicate that ALL of a guest's reservations have been cancelled on occasion following their bringing concurrent reservations to the attention of phone agents.

The phone agents appear, at this time, to be doing this on their own. We're not aware of any written WDW policy that says it will or should happen, so I'm not going to tell anyone that it's against Disney rules to make concurrent reservations. But we have enough reports to say that maybe you should consider NOT bringing concurrent reservations to the attention of any WDW phone agent until you are ready to cancel one. (Maybe hanging up on them isn't the best idea either.)

Because the OP doesn't know the name of the phone agent, they can't make a detailed report, but they can do what Tricia suggested, call WDW-DINE, ask for a supervisor, and then ask if cancelling a guest's concurrent reservations is standard and permitted behavior. That probably won't help to get the reservations back, though.

To remind you to cancel one. The website does give you the option of keeping both reservations.

Since we do not know if this agent actually cancelled the 2 reservations on purpose or was a misunderstanding, I don't think we should flame her. I have made double reservations for the same time or close to it but not because I'm waiting to see which restaurant we want to eat at - it is for 2 completely different groups of people in our party. For instance, we have an ADR for 6 p.m. at 1900 Park Faire for 2 and a 6:15 p.m. at Liberty Tree Tavern for 2 people. I hope the CM's don't take it upon themselves to cancel what looks like a double reservation when it is not!

Because some CMs seem to be cancelling guest's concurrent reservations under any circumstances, I usually suggest that if you are going to split your party, make the two reservations under different names.

Even though it may not be against the rules, double booking takes opportunities from others. No wonder it's so hard to find ADR's sometimes. It's a real shame that some people don't get a ressie they want, and others are "hoarding"them for themselves;typical societal problem-ME,ME,ME!!:sad2:

I really think Disney has to figure out a way to make this fair to everyone, the system as it is is flawed. I know it is not fair for people to have 2 reservations at the same time , but it is difficult 6 months out to know what you are going to be doing in which park I think many many adrs are made with out people ever using them, you can even make adr's without even having a planned trip to Disney, so what happens to those adrs

While I agreee that people shouldn't keep two sets of reservations I can see how someone may have two sets for a little while.

For example I had two sets on the first night for our January trip for two time frames. One was when I booked Crystal Palace during the 190 day glitch but couldn't get CRT with the glitch. I then booked CRT at 180 and canceled Crystal Palace.

The other I had for longer when I found a reservation we were looking for on another night. I booked it and then had to wait to talk to my husband about it. By then the system was having issues so I couldn't get to my reservations online to cancel the one I needed to so I waited. When I found out about the problem here and knew that calling they would be able to find them I called and the CM then canceled the ones I needed cancelled (I also needed to cancel one due to it conflicting with a tour we are taking). The ones I didn't want cancelled are now all showing on the website.

Since the OP didn't say how far out the vacation is I can see having more then one reservation for a short time. If they are cancelled even 2 months early that is still plenty of time for someone else to get the reservation.

But there is also the case where for one day I have 2 sets of reservations but they are legit. We are traveling with a big party. Half the party will be dining at Tony's while the other half will be dining at Liberty Tree. It is a matter of preference. Some like Tony's some like LTT. Since I made the reservations well in advance, its not fair for someone at Disney to decide whether I have 2 or not. I need both. There is no where posted that I cannot have both, so as far as I am concerned they should not be deleting reservations without asking first. I know there is a lot of abuse of the system, but that still doesn't mean that someone should take it open themselves to delete any reservations without communicating.

I've said it many times before, and I'll say it again until I'm blue in the face ;)...the #1 problem with the system is the 180 day rule. Everyone knows what kind of food they like. I can make a reservation at Le Cellier for any time knowing there pretty much will never be a day where I say "I'm not in the mood for a good steak today". However, I can't be reasonably sure that I want day 4 (or which ever day) of my 7-day trip to be my Epcot day 180 days out. Especially since parks and entertainment schedules are tentative at best at that point.

Not that long ago they tried to go back to a 90 day booking window. That didn't last for long. I guess people were complaining that that was too short of a window.:confused3

This is one of those thing at which Disney cannot make everyone happy. So they have to go with what the majority likes, and apparently the majority of people have no problem making their ADRS far in advance.

I just want to point out that this was not the case with the OP. She told the CM she knew she was double booked because she didn't know which one she wanted. Not the same thing at all!
