I see that most of the Disney restaurants consider a 10 yr old to be an adult. Does anyone have any advice how to handle meals? What if my 10 yr old just wants some chicken nuggets?

We're not getting the dining plan, but just how strict is this dining policy? It's frustrating because I don't know if he can eat an adult size meal yet. At places like Liberty Tree Tavern, does he have to order the adult portion?

We have the same issue. My experience is that if you go to a restaurant that has set pricing according to age (like LTT or a buffet), you have to pay the adult price for your 10-year-old. However, if you go to a restaurant with a la carte pricing (per item), your 10-year-old can order off of the child's menu. Hope this helps!

Right! At buffets and "all you can eat" places, he will be charged the adult price (which is a real bummer at this age.) If you go to a TS restaurant where you order off a menu or CS restaurant, you can choose to have him order off the kid's menu and you will be charged the kid's price. Be sure the server knows (at TS) that you are not on the dining plan and that you want the kid's portion. On the DDP, they will serve an "adult size" portion of a kid's item to kids over 9....and about double the price.

Thank you for the tips.

I remember the waiters at WDW being very flexible. Perhaps they can even prepare a junior-sized portion of an adult meal for him.

Our daughter was 10 1/2 for our last trip - March 06 - and we found that we had to be creative and she had to try new things ... that's for sure ... buffets were great for her ... and most places would make any steak "plain" for her and leave off the spices and special sauces/butter. I do wish Disney would change the age to 11 or 12. I noticed that Rainforest considers children through age 12.

We have two DDs--the one who is 11, and one who is nine--we often order them a plain steak (without the sauces, as recommended by allaboard) and ask to have it split for them. This approach seems to work.
