I need to schedule a late lunch. Which restaurant do I want? My mom is coming with us, who was born in 49, so I'm wondering if the 50's Primetime cafe would be a good choice... she'd probably get a kick out of it. How is hollywood and vine? any other that we should try?

We enjoyed PrimeTime Cafe but have not done it in years. We always dine at Mama Melrose (a lot of people on this board do not like it, but we have always enjoyed it). We did not like Hollywood Brown Derby when we went several years ago, but we are giving it a second chance on this September's trip. We have dined three times at Hollywood & Vine and did not like it at all...each visit was worse for us as far as service, cleanliness and quality of food. But each person has their own thoughts and reactions so I say ask your mom which one she'd like and go with it.

I agree - we always do Mama Melrose. Not crazy about Prime TIme or Hollywood & Vine - prefer SciFi.... for food and ambience ... this time we are doing HBD also which we haven't done in years.

We will never go back to 50's PT. That was the worst place we have been!!! If that is the only choice there, hop a bus, any bus to anywhere and eat whatever you can find there.... it's bound to be better than 50's!!! That root vegetable still makes me quiver!!!! :scared1:

We like the Sci-Fi but can't do it very often because we have to let the film bits go out of our minds for a while! The atmosphere is awesome and if your mother grew up in the 50s and 60s, this will put her right back into the drive in mode. We love a late lunch here (after 2:00). The cars are farely full when we get there but when we leave, it's pretty much empty.

Second would be the 50s Prime Time. My last experience there wasn't the greatest but that was because of my mood at the time. I was in a neck brace and couldn't turn around to see things very well. Most of that was my husband's fault for putting me in the seat that faced the wall. But I'd go back there at any time.

BTW Schmily - you don't have to get the root vegetables at Prime Time. My husband substitutes all the time there. If he gets any kidding from the server, he replies that it's better to get something that you want and eat it rather than to let it waste on your plate. Brings up those starving children in China.

I would do Sci-Fi as well! Get a nice burger and a milkshake...mmm, mmm, good! :thumbsup2

Another vote for Sci Fi.

While I loved the atmosphere at Prime Time -- the food didn't wow us at all -- except for the smores for dessert which were yummy. We also didn't receive or see any interaction from servers.

We tried Sci Fi on a whim (despite bad reviews here on the Dis) -- we stuck with burgers and DS and DH had shakes. The burger was awesome -- much too big for me (had to give 1/2 to DH). The atmosphere was AWESOME.

We've also ate at Mama Melroses (service very slow) and Hollywood & Vine (for breakfast). Both were okay --

I actually just switched my lunch ressies for this weekend from 50's PT to Sci Fi because I don't want to deal with the waitress banter/pushing food on us.

We've done Sci Fi before, and had burgers & fries there. The food was fine- almost like sit down counter service.
