Dining dress codes...are tattoos in or out this season?

my DH and i went to afternoon tea at the grand floridian once - that day DH wore black jeans, black t-shirt, chains hanging off his jeans (think "biker") - oh, and he had (still has) long black hair (pulled back in braid for the tea!) and a long ZZ Top beard (with dark glasses) - we sat down, once the waitress realized DH was only there to keep me company, she took away his dainty china!! (oh well....)

so DH was within the dress code, and didn't care about anyone else's opinion - we took pix, i enjoyed the tea, and the waitress told DH it was so nice that he joined me!

enjoy cali grill for your anniversary, you'll be dressed fine - hoping you get a nice window table for Wishes! :wizard:

If YOU might feel like a fish out of water, why not pack or grab a casual jacket (like a jean jacket - that seems more in line with who you are presenting here than a little cashmere sweater, though that would work too. I have this great little rayon thing that is really light, cut like a jean jacket, very casual - but dresses up jeans fast). Your husband could also grab something with sleeves that could be thrown over a t-shirt. You could stuff both those things in a daybag and pull them out only if you are feeling out of place.

I think dress codes serve two purposes, the first is to make other people feel comfortable around us. The other thing is because for a lot of us - we aren't comfortable if we stick out. You sound more concerned about the second than the first.

ransom - we tend to run into a lot of conventioneers at cali grill. Their corporate casual is much "fancier" than our shorts and polos.

Good point.

Glad I'm not the only one running into those folks! :upsidedow

Several years ago when visiting with just my mom and brother we ended up at citricos. I think we may have been stranded at GF due to extreme weather conditions and Citricos was the only dinner restaurant with openings. Even though we weren't dressed to meet the dress code - mom in disney tank top, brother without a collared shirt, this was when tees weren't on the okay list - the host reassured us we were fine, considering the circumstances. Basically the only other guests in the restaurant were a rehearsal dinner party, dressed to the nines. Boy did we look funny compared to them.

We had dinner there in May, and both wore shorts and polos. There were people dressed in jeans. Don't worry about it ... just have fun! We had a blast and the food was delish. Go outside to watch Wishes ... it was a great view.

 That's quite an experience!

I guess some of us just need to learn to relax about that a little more. I'll just tell myself I'm not in high school, and there's no need to look like the cool kids.

Love it!

"I know they have a certain dress code...they don't want tank tops, flip flops and cut-offs"

just a question about tank tops and flip flops... does that mean guys in tank tops or both girls and guys... and as for flip flops... are all the restaurants like that or just the nicer ones?

All we wear are rainbows, and all i wear are tanks, halters etc...

Dont have any adr's but if a restaurant isnt too crowded during the day and we decide last minute to hop in, i dont want to be turned away from say, 50s prime time, just for wearing my rainbows...

I'm kind of glad to stumble across this tonight. My husband and I are celebrating our 15th annivarsary (a bit late) at Cali Grill next month. We are going on a Tuesday at 7:30pm (WISHES at 9). Anyway, I have a nice but not very dressy outfit picked out, but have been worreid it would not be nice enough. It sounds like it will be. I just need to find shoes, I only have flip flops and tennis shoes (I am a SAHM, I go to school, Chuck E Cheese, the park, etc... nowhere fancy ever!) Guys have it easy, DH is wearing a Disney Polo shirt (Mickey outline instead of Polo horse) and dockers...

DH has several large visible tattoos and we've eaten at these restaurants with no problems. Don't worry about what others are thinking (cause if they are thinking something bad it's just cause they don't know:thumbsup2 ) and have a great anniversary!!!
