Dining credits?

My husband and I are both going to Disney with our family. He will only be able to stay for 5 of the 7 days that I plan on booking. Is there a way to get his dining plan for 5 days and mine for 7, even if we are in the same room? If I have to pay for 7 days of dining credits for him, will I be able to use his excess credits with no problem- without him being there?

You probably could use them but if your buying them tell Disney he only there for 5 nights and then see if they will just charge you for when he is there.:thumbsup2

You both have to have the dining plan for the same number of nights. There is no charging people for a different number of credits in the same room. You can use his credits.

I believe with some confidence that everyone in the room must be on the same level plan for the same amount of days. Since the credits are pooled, the credits don't belong to "me" and "you", but "us".

The previous replies are correct, if you book 7 days on one reservation, then all people in the room need to have the same 7 day package. The dining credits are pooled so after your husband leaves you would have access to his extra 2 days of credits.

The other option is to split it over 2 reservations. You could book a 5 night package for the two of you, and then a 2 night solo package.

The first would be easier, but the second option may be cheaper for you.

Either way, have a great trip!

The only problem with that is that unless she is an AP holder, staying on a military deal, or DVC points, she'd then have to buy another one day park ticket for herself for that second stay. Disney does not recognize a split stay. To them they are just two seperate reservations and each reservation must meet the criteria for that stay. If they were on free dining, she'd have to buy a two day park ticket for the second stay and if they purchased the DDP, she'd have to buy a one day ticket for that second stay. There is also a chance that she'd have to change rooms for that second stay. It'd be easier and cheaper to just go ahead and buy the DDP for the husband for an extra two days and then use the extra credits to do a Signature meal or two.

Thanks for answering my question...
I'll just have to book 7 days for both of us.

In answer to the 2nd question, the credits are pooled for the room, they are not tied to individuals. So, you CAN use his leftover credits even if he's not there (so long as you're using them for people on YOUR reservation and you don't go over your allotted number of credits spent per meal (e.g. if you have 2 adults and 2 children on your reservation, you can only redeem up to 2 adult meals and 2 kids meals per...um...meal). Also, since the credits are pooled at the start of the reservation for the entire trip, you don't need to only use them on certain days.

So, either plan an extra TS to burn those or even plan a sig instead of a 1 credit meal and those extra credits will be taken care of :). No sense wasting them at all.

Edit: Also, to save yourself a little extra money, you CAN book 5 day tickets even with a longer stay. The plans are driven off of the number of nights you stay at a resort and NOT the length of the ticket media you buy. If you get 5 day tickets for both of you, you can extend yours by the 2 days when you're down there (just do it on or before your last admission day!) and leave his at 5. This would save you roughly $16...so it's not entirely important :p

I had heard they are trying to curb this, but we have done it many times in the past, and it works great! Just make sure you don't split your MYW ticket purchase. The 2-day tickets would be much more expensive :) So Cafeen's advice about adding days to your ticket si brilliant! Good call Cafeen.

aubriee and Cafeen, made a good point about using xtra creds to do sig... my concern is you mentioned you are with family, and if you are dining with them and they don't have xtra creds to do sig meals, then most likely you will dine with them and not use up those creds.

do keep in mind that you don't have to buy tickets to cover the whole stay. You can just buy a 2 day ticket (if you're getting FD) and then you can upgrade your ticket to 7 days (if you're going to be in the parks that much) and his to a 5 day.

Depends on the family. If she's going with extended family, it can be a little date night (after all, do you really want to spend every meal with everyone? I know I wouldn't ;)). If she is going with kids, the kids meals are still cheap enough at the Sigs to pay OOP for them (or rather, OOP for 1 and credits for the other, so you still burn 2 TS for the kids combined, equalizing the adult remaining with the kids remaining).

Now, if it's all adults (or even "Disney adults"), then it can get costly, and the best bet may be to pick a 2nd TS at a lower cost place (e.g. The Plaza or something similar).

What PP's were referencing is that if she split the reservation to two separate reservations so as not to pay for the DDP for the whole time when her husband isn't going to be there, she would still have to buy at least a one day ticket on the second reservation if she wanted DDP on that second reservation. A one day ticket is required to add the dining plan to a reservation. A two day ticket purchase is required if you're doing the free dining promo.

IMO - do one reservation and use his extra credits up while he's there by doing TS breakfast and TS dinner, or use them after he's gone if he doesn't care.

yes, I do understand that. I wanted to mention to the OP that she could just get the minimum tickets and then upgrade (at Guest Relations) to the 'right' number of days for each of them. Sometimes you'll get a CM on the phone that will just assume or even suggest you get tickets for all of the days for all of the people.
