Dining Credits and online check-in

I have done online check-in for our stay starting this Friday. Can I go right to a park and start using my credits or do I need to stop at the resort to have them activated?
 
Technically, you can go directly to a park. If you get to the gate and they won't let you in (has happened to me before), simply go over to the guest services window and they'll get you fixed up quickly.
 
I went directly to the park last year, but my credits didn't show on my magic band. I had to pay with a credit card and fix it at the resort check in desk later. Was hoping they'd fix that this year, since I'm doing a split stay again and facing the same dilemma.

Yeah, the split stays cause problems with Disney's system. We generally do a split stay with our DVC points, and never have a problem with the first half, but the back half is generally a problem. We don't do the dining plan, so that's not an issue, but we always have to go to the front desk to check in to our 2nd resort. The CM's told us it's because the system is trying to assign us 2 room numbers...ie, it's not turning loose of the 1st one, and also trying to pull in the 2nd one.
