Is there any rhyme or reason to the free disney dining blackout dates? I ask because I was looking at leaving on February 4th and I see that, the week is blacked out. Does anyone know if something is going on that week?

I though there was always a cheerleader competition in early Feb?

We were really hoping for FD 2/8-11. We leave on a Disney cruise the 11th. Why do you think FD isn't offered this week. It is the week before and the week after.
I noticed the dance/cheering competitions....how much impact could this make? I thought this week would be dead....
Really hoping for some sort of great discount or we will probably skip WDW this year! :sad2::sad2::sad2:

Great Question! We are booked on a black out week in Oct.... 14th-22... is there something going on that is going to make crowds/resorts extra crowded so they blacked those dates out? Any heads up on this would be super appreciated. I was hoping October would be a quiet month, didn't expect those dates to be blacked out when I looked at free dining yesterday when it was announced.

A really big technology conference that week.

we are Oct 15-22 and feel same way it sucks ! I looked into switching my dates for the FD and my flights have gone up so much and the cancel of 75 each just makes it dumb to even think about it now grrrrrrrrrr !

The thing you have to remember about blackout dates and the reasons behind them is that Disney is looking to fill the resorts, not the parks at this time. So if a big conference or convention comes along and fills their rooms they're going to blackout the discounts then. They've got their rooms full, there's no reason in their mind to offer a discount. Now the parks themselves won't see an upswing in crowds compared to the resorts since most of the people staying at the hotels aren't actually going to WDW, they're going to conferences or competitions all day.

I understand that these groups will be competing throughout the days, but how much impact would they have on our trip? (We were hoping to arrive on Feb 4, too). Where do large groups like this usually stay?

If it's a group of teenagers, probably the All Stars and maybe a mod for overflow if they need it. From what I've read of Pop Warner week it's the All Stars and POR. That's just one group though, not sure about the dance/cheerleading competition but that would make sense logically.

I have a 17 yo son that will love it! ;)

It seems they could exclude groups from FD. :confused3
So if you were planning on going 2/8-11, what value or mod would you choose?
We really wanted to stay at POR but not if there are tons of cheerleaders and/or dancers.

Thanks!
