I am sure this has beeen addressed in another thread, but honestly I am not too great at the search function. I know that shorts are not allowed and jeans are "frowned upon". Does this apply to children as well? I am traveling with my 4 yr old Ds and he doesn't have 7 pairs of slacks. I would obviously put him in nice clothes on formal and semi-formal night. But was wondering if on casual nights he could wear jeans or nice khaki shorts. Thanks in advance for your input.

I have always dressed my DS for dinner.

I only bring 2 pairs of pants for my DS. I put them on him just before dinner and then changed him into shorts as soon as we left the dinning room. That way they are only worn a short period of time.

I way over packed for my DS12 and DS7! I brought too many shorts and shirts! As for dinner, I had one pair of blue "dockers" and one pair of light brown "dockers" for each of them. For dinner, polo shirts were the norm except for "formal" night and then I made them wear ties with button down blue oxfords. Semi-formal would have been the same thing, but DH and I went to Palo :goodvibes so they ate with the lab.

Almost always we changed after dinner, only once (Friday night) did we not have time to do that.

Here is a hint to help you out in the shopping dept. After I spent $$$ on new shoes and pants and shirts for a family wedding (very dressy) to only have them both grow out of them so fast for the cruise I hit the second hand stores. At Good Will I got brand new Lands End pants for both of them! I also was able to get them dark shoes- DS 7 got shoes that still had the tags "approved for uniform wear" on them! I got 2 pairs of pants and 2 pairs of shoes for under $10! I couldn't find blue pants in time, so they did get new blue pants.

My suggestion is if you have enough time, hit the upcoming garage sales and second hand stores. Don't pack too much- my boys lived in their swim trunks (which they had two each) and perhaps one other pair of shorts. A few t-shirts (remember you will end up buying shirts) and enough underware and socks. I had underpacked in the athletic sock department for our trip. We went March 25, it was supposed to be warm- right? Any how, I could have used more socks. I was planning on them living in their sandals (which they did after we got away from Florida).

Have fun!

This is not the popular opinion on this or any other cruise board, but I'm going to say it anyway.

Since jeans are now allowed. If you don't have the time, energy, or money to buy pants for a 4 year old child that might only be used once, let him wear his jeans.

He is a kid. 4 year old children shouldn't be held up to the same standards as the rest of us. If anyone does not like his attire, they need help, not you. LOL.

Don't stress. He is a child and it's your vacation. My vote save the money.

Less then 2 weeks to go!!!!! :hourglass :yay: :cheer2:

We took 2 pair of pants for ds and that worked out great.

I am not sure who told you jeans are "frowned" upon, that information in definately wrong. Jeans are 100% acceptable in every dining room, no problem at all. Disney has a new casual dress code for dining. Unless you want to dress up for the formal/semi-formal nights, you are good to go. For the boys, I would put them in pants/jeans and let them change into shorts after dinner.

A person no longer needs to over pack, no more taking all the extra clothes for dinner..yippee!

Your post doesn't say the lenght of your cruise and that might change things somewhat. We just got back from the 3 night Wonder and it was very casual. We didn't see anything formal on the kids, unless they were doing the formal pics w/the characters.

My DSs (11 and 6) wore tan shorts or pants every night w/a polo and looked great.

Kids are just cute in whatever they wear....enjoy your trip!

We're sailing on the 4 night cruise on April 30th. Do any of the kids (especially the boys) were shorts? How about the younger boys? I know the Wonder is more casual than the Magic, but I didn't know if it was appropriate for children to wear nice shorts.

Thanks!

We are going on the 7 night in July. 1 night is pirate night (fun costume), 1 formal (ebay tux $17) and 1 night the adults are going to Palo (ds5 will be going to Oceanears). That leaves 4 nights to dress. 1 pair of tan pants, 4 polos. He dresses for dinner and changes into shorts right after. We've never had a problem with that. I figure if he gets a spot I have my Tide to Go and if it's really bad I'll spring for the cleaning bill. Same goes for dh too. We'll be doing a week at WDW after that so we cut down on the non necessary them. Ok, maybe the tux wasn't necessary, but we're doing a family reunion and the whole crew of guys are wearing them.
