If you were spending the day at HS, where would you dine? We ate last year at HBD but we were somewhat disappointed. Not that the food was bad, but I had higher expectations that it did not quite meet. Would you give it a 2nd chance or try somewhere new? On our HS Day, we plan to hop on a boat and head over to the Yachtsman Steakhouse for dinner. :confused3

The dining options at DHS fall a bit short for me. I have had good experiences at both 50s Prime Time and SciFi, but really it was the fun atmosphere- not the great food quality- that made these enjoyable meals. I have yet to try HBD...

If HBD was a letdown, then I would definitely hop the boat over to the Boardwalk area for Yachtsman or Flying Fish. I think both are excellent.

Just my opinion, but we are also not fans of the HBD. Do you really want to do a TS for lunch since you plan on going over to the YSH for dinner? That is a lot of food, unless you are planning on an early lunch and a late dinner. If so then, I suggest you try the Prime Time 50's at HS. Yes, there are wonderful places for lunch over at the BC/YC and BWI - but you need to leave HS, leaving = less park time. And you are already planning on dinner at the YSH, which is a great restaurant!! Ask for Ricardo for your server, he is awesome! :thumbsup2

At HS for QS, Starring Rolls isn't bad! Great sandwiches, salads, sushi, and bakery goods. :)

We personally loved the Sci-Fi.

The food was excellent, the portions were more than enough and we even took some with us, and it was fun for th ekids

We did feel the movies being played were redundant, but the kids enjoyed it.

We let the kids each pick out a place, then we pick one, then back to them. That way we all get a little buit of what we like.

We have never tried 50's prime time, but thought about it!

I would say the Wave at the Contemporary is an EXCELLENT. A great place for kids and adults!

We always do 50's Prime Time for dinner and typically the Fairfax Fries area for lunch ( because there are several windows, so something for everyone kinda thing ).

I would also recommend trying 50's Prime Time Cafe. I have been there multiple times and always had a good meal there.

Now another restaurant I would recommend at the Boardwalk Inn/Boardwalk Villas is the ESPN Club which happens to be my favorite place to eat at in all of WDW. From Hollywood Studios you can take the Boat which goes there or the walkway over to the Boardwalk. Finally assuming there are no major sporting events taking place during the afternoon you should be able to get a table right away for Lunch because they don't accept ADR's and on days like that I have never seen them busy.

Last spring we had a really good meal at Mama Melrose's. We had free dining, and we felt that it was a great value for a dining credit. Our kids loved the food and had a blast with the spaghetti and meatball cupcakes: fudge meatballs and LOTS of spaghetti frosting. We will be eating there again on our trip next week!

I agree with this (however, we have been to HBD and weren't thrilled with it the first time but liked it better the second time). I would go with either 50's or Sci-Fi for an earlier lunch. The theming at both is some of the best on property, IMO. The food is good at both, just don't go in expecting too much. I wouldn't spend too much time leaving DHS for lunch, go back to DHS and then leave again for dinner. That's just too much back and forth for my taste.

I loved the Sci-fi also but it was more for the atmosphere. we are going there again this year and was wondering what you had to eat so maybe I'll pick the same thing. I remember the steak being a little dry. Maybe I'll try the ribs this time.

We have tried H&V 4x....HBD 1x...50's 1x... and of all those my favorite meal was 50's Prime Time's POT ROAST ! YUM!

I really wanted to like HBD but did not... however we are giving it another try in May... the menu has changed a bit... and H&V was a good value for our family for a buffet...

Have a Fantasmic Dining package at Mama Melrose in May as well.. so trying that one....
Menu looks yummy ! We will also try Sci Fi on our next visit ...

My favorite CS/QS dining is at Sunset Market.. that is near RNR and TOT and there are many options situated there so a wonderful selection for the family... Eddie's, Fairfax, etc.
I loved the italian deli sandwich from Eddies...
albeit .. it has outdoor seating....

Have a magical visit !

We are the exception but we REALLY like Mama Melrose. We had a good meal there a few years ago and just last month had a GREAT meal. We were on the dinning plan and did the fantasmic package. We we able to get appetizers where that is normally not included. We got steak and it was one of the best steaks I have ever had. The dessert tray was also excellent. Service was good as well. We also like Prime Time. Hollywood and Vine, we find the food very below par, but service and characters are great.

Only read OP but we like the 50's PT. HOwever, if you'll be eating a larger meal later, you might want to just grab something quick at the Starring Rolls Cafe or the Writer's Studio.

Or, you could just order apps and drinks at the bar in 50's PT, if your party is all adults.

Another vote for Sci Fi Dinner, loved the different little "car" booths...part of the fun of many WDW restaurants is the atmosphere...this tops the list imo. Haven't been to 50s dinner yet...want to go there next!

but don't go in expecting the food to be 5 star quality. ;)

We have an ADR for Sci Fi, i think it will be someplace my little boy will enjoy. We are going to dine @ CRT with my little princess and wanted to do something so that my little man wouldnt feel left out....if anybody knows of anything he might like better please let me know!!

I went to Mama Melrose for lunch when I was at HS solo. If you like the little Italian restaurant atmosphere, you would like MM. It is not a small place but blocked into rooms which create a cozy atmospere. It is a hidden jem! I had a really lovely server. Very attentive but not too bothersome. I relaxed and was even talked into dessert.

Enjoy!
