This is silly, I know. But somehow the icon isn't in the task bar at the edge of my computer any more.
I can open Ding through the programs and have left an icon to click and set it up, but I like it down where it is just on. How do I get it back in the task bar?

And...when I did turn it on this morning, I heard a ding! (sound) but there were no messages.

It does say "Ready." at the bottom, so it should be connected.

hmmm???

any help?

thanks!

maybe it is hidden, I have no ding sound. When that happens I shut my machine off and turn it back on.

Thanks....
but it really isn't there...all the other icons are happy and lined up like usual. ;)

Have tried restarting the computer a few times.

Anyone else have a clue (the "help" part of the ding thing says that if you minimize it it should go into task bar but it's not happening)?

I can try to help you but right now I'm at work and this comp. uses Windows 2000 so yours may be different. Also we can't download Ding here due to firewall so I can't even go thru the motions to see if I'm explaining it right. At best I'm working on memory of doing this on my home computer. forgive me...

At home I could:
1. right click on the gray bar along the bottom of your screen to the left of the small icons.
2. when a little menu pops up, click on Properties
3. a little box pops up and you click on Customize
4. a list of all icons appear and each one has a drop-down box giving you these choices:
A.) always hide
B.) always show
C.) hide when inactive

5. Next to Ding (or maybe just the SW icon) I click on "always show" You may have to reboot for it to take effect.

I'm 99% sure this works for Windows XP Home. We just got another computer with Vista and it's different and haven't had time to figure it out.
Good luck!!:goodvibes

Also, here is the FAQ section of the Ding/SWA website:

28. How can I keep DING from "disappearing" from the Task Bar/System Tray? (Windows only)
If the DING! icon is not displaying in the Taskbar/System Tray, be sure that "Hide inactive icons" is not active.

1. Right Click on the Task Bar and select "Properties."
2. On the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" window under the "Taskbar" tab, "Notification area," check to see if "Hide inactive icons" is selected.
3. Unselect and click "Apply"

If you would prefer to continue hiding other inactive icons, but allow DING! to be displayed at all times:

1. Right Click on the Task Bar and select "Properties."
2. On the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" window under the "Taskbar" tab, "Notification area," check to see if "Hide inactive icons" is selected.
3. Click on "Customize"
4. In the "Customize Notifications" window, select DING!
5. Change "Behavior" to "Always show"
6. Click "OK" on the "Customize Notifications" window
7. Click "OK" again on the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties"

hope this helps!:thumbsup2

Thanks! I think that did the trick!
(not sure why it dropped out...it had been there and just fine for months) :confused3
