Diners, Drive-ins and Dives

We have ate at 3 places so far that have been featured on the show. Two of the places were great!!! The other was horrible and we won't go back to that one.

We loved The Shed BBQ in Ocean Springs, MS, it is definately a dive but it has the best BBQ - that one is hands down our favorite.

We did not like the Blow Fly Inn in Gulfport, MS - I'm not sure if we just hit it on a bad day but it was bad:sick: and we won't go back.

we went to the blow fly inn (still have the flies on my windowsill!) and we weren't impressed either. it wasn't too long after the show aired that we went. we find food at local places are much better.

hubby and i have been to surrey's juice bar in new orleans. LOVE that place!

we're dyin' to dry the shed!

I haven't been to one yet. But a month from now my sister and I are driving to Las Vegas for a concert and she really wants to stop at Mad Greek's Diner in Baker, CA. I really wish they had a menu online!

Is this the Squeeze In you are referring to? I think the original is in Truckee and now there is one in Sac and Reno. Personally, I have eaten at the one in Truckee several years ago really liked it but the one in Reno is blah and IMO way over priced.

I dont know about in reno or truckee as the squeeze in has been in sac for 30 yrs. It is just a burger place.

There have only been 4 Squeeze Inns, the original one in Sacramento which opened 30 years ago, and moved this year because the location was not ADA complaint (duh, that's why they called it the Squeeze Inn), one in Galt, and one that just opened in Roseville.
Also been to Jamies in Sacramento, right across the street from where I work.
Great too.
:confused3 now I am confused

Ive also been to the squeeze inn... they moved locations now and we were there a guy was tackling the largest ever squeeze inn burger we stayed the full 2 hours it took for him to eat a 12 patty burger and it was HUGEEE and sickening at the same time i only managed half my single and 0 fries.
There's one in Roseville now?! Woohoo... we just drove past the location and didnt notice it (We were heading to the Pizza Hut Sunrise at Cirby ) Thanks for making me and DFi aware!
We live in sac and squeeze in is so good. The grand opening was something else in Roseville:cool1:
Totally confused, so I did what I always do when confused, I consulted my dear friend Google :lmao:

Squeeze Inn is in the Sacramento area and its claim to fame is burgers

Squeeze In was established in Truckee, CA. in 1974 and is a breakfast/brunch place whose claim to fame is their omelettes and eclectic decorations as well as the narrow dimensions at the Truckee location. The Reno location was added in the past couple of years

DD&D's has visited the Squeeze Inn (burgers) and Bobby Flays Throwdown visited the Squeeze In (Omelettes)

I'm surprised at the closeness of the names considering how geographically close they are to each other.

Gosh, I hope I got this right but that is what I think I read......crud, I'm confused again ;)

FoodNetwork.com has a list of where DD&D's has gone

we've been to The Beacon in spartanburg, sc (before DDD was there).

also, when i lived in ohio, we loved to eat at Blue Ash Chili in OH.

We have seven nearby but I haven't checked any of them out yet. We are planning to make a point to do that this spring.

YES!! We have been twice to the Marietta Diner in GA, and once to Iron Barley in St Louis.

We also hit two long-ago suggestions from Rachel Ray (back when she traveled :lmao:)... the Flying Biscuit in Atlanta for bkfst, and Fitz's in St Louis for freshly-bottled root beer and fried ravioli.

Oh yeah, my DH went to another DDD place while travelling for work... Ruth's Diner in Salt Lake City. He said it was excellent!

Would go to any of these again, in a heartbeat. :goodvibes Expecially Marietta Diner, whenever we visit family near there. At all these places, the food was good, with as fun atmosphere as it seemed on tv.

And we have several new DDD places noted that we would like to try on future trips! We're total travel foodies.:rotfl: Even some of the Man vs Food places have made our list... but NOT the monstrous food challenges featured there. :scared1::sick::scared1:

Wow thanks! I did not know about the "Iron Barley". Have to check it out.

I have eaten at Fitz's though. It is good food, but nothing "special" as far as I am concerned.

They are opening The Shed BBQ in Hattiesburg!! We are so excited!! Their BBQ is the BEST!

I have never tried Blow Fly Inn but have heard other's say it is good, so maybe they are just not consistent? :confused3

Not yet but we have a list going of the ones we want to hit.

The Marietta Diner is on there. Dh's coworker went and didn't like it but we are still going to try it.

I suggested a few hole in the wall places to him in email but he hasn't been to them yet.

We ate at Studio Diner down near San Diego. I loved it! Good food, plus it is on the lot of a film/tv studio and one of my favorite TV shows happened to be filmed there. We had so much fun!!

I wouldn't make a special trip there, but it was easy to make a side trip there on our way back into San Diego from the Wild Animal Park. I should try some of the others, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Iron Barley is just stuck in a neighborhood, but the line was down the sidewalk to wait for a table! Great Oak Roasted Prime Rib. Recently saw this place on Man vs. Food as well.

At Fitz's we just had the fried ravioli (don't get that around here), and the bottomless mugs of root beer/ creme soda/ orange soda. We so needed that, after a hot day at the zoo!!! :lmao:

OT, we also had a dinner at Zia's during that St Louis trip. Got a tip from a coworker who used to live there... it was not on any of the shows, but it rated a :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 from us!

Apparently, he filmed a segement at a local Italian place, but it looks like it hasn't aired yet. They have a big poster with his autograph on it and they say he filmed. The place is called Mamma Cozza's. Not far from DLR. No idea why he went there. I've been twice in the past couple years and was exceedingly underwhelmed both times. Plus, I'd classify it as neither a diner, a drive-in nor a dive. It's just an Italian place. Nothing special.

We just went to one today. The Cabbage Town Market. It was a tiny hole-in-the-wall but super cute. The food was good and the homemade ice cream was delish!

My nephew is completely addicted to this show (he is on the autism spectrum and hyper-focuses on stuff....Triple D is his thing right now)

My SIL and BIL took him to one or two in the Baltimore area. He was beyond thrilled!! :goodvibes

Yep! I've eaten at the Chef Point Cafe in Watauga, TX - fine dining in a gas station - and they absolutely rock! I love their lasagna and bread pudding, but they have an extensive menu of delicious items that I can't wait to try! Staff is very friendly too. :teeth:

We tried Grover's Bar and Grill in Buffalo (Amherst) New York. It was great place, the food was really good, and the atmospher was crazy. The place was packed and the Bartender was like "slow night".
We enjoyed his Christmas Special at Disneyland. Can't wait to try that.

Yep...Frank's Diner in Kenosha, WI. It's a tradition that we hit Frank's after a Saturday morning dentist appointment. Love the food and the atmosphere...HATE the wait!

We stopped at Frank's for breakfast on our way home from Minneapolis last year and it was delicious!! I'd seen it on DDD and was so glad that it lived up to the hype!

Oh yes! In fact one place where I live ( sacramento ) he was told to try the squeeze, we had already eaten there. He loved it. There are a few places we have tried as well and they were really good. Jo

You just gave me an idea! We are taking half day off to go to Red Hawk and might just stop by the Squeeze Inn for lunch! YUM
