Thanks everybody for all your input.
we have decided to stay in a villa, as we can swim without having to worry about getting to the pool. :thumbsup2

Hi, you've made i wise choice.I've just come back from an 18 night stay in anaheim and vegas with my 3 children,2 boys 13 and 7 and daughter aged 9.I have now vowed, that where i have a choice, i will never stay in a hotel room again.Last year we had a suite in canada, and you do notice the space that the seperate living/sleeping areas give you when the kids start to spread their wings a bit, lol.Even though you don't spend a lot of time in your accomadation, sometimes it's nice to have a bit of space.

The rooms, like most of the hotel rooms in Orlando are what I would call "motel" style.(including "Moderates"; "DeLuxe")
Disney's Value and Moderate resorts are all motel-style (outside walkways), but the Deluxes are regular hotel rooms with indoor corridors.

I still think the villa option is relevant,

I think Dicky Knee is correct. Lagunn's original question was:

what are the disney hotels like? should i just book it and stay onsite?

Not a case of which is best Hotel v Villa.

The responses about on-site Disney are relevant, be it DeLuxe, Moderate, Value or DVC, and agreeing with Dicky Knee again I would suggest the Value hotels for younger children.

This, of course, is all now irrelevant because Lagunn has chosen a villa. :smickey:

I disagree - but as you say it's irrelevant NOW.

The size of the party WAS relevant and Lagunn's dilemma plus the general way the thread has progressed throughout has been on topic in my opinion.
With good friendly advice being offered to help her.

A value hotel (whilst I am sure is a great place to stay) is not big enough in my opinion (and other's too) and suggestions have been made to help Lagunn decide the best way forward, what these boards are all about surely?

It is Lagunn's decision to decide whether she is happy with the way the thread has progressed. As she has made a decision following all the advice given I can only presume that there is no problem here. :)

lagunn's 'dilemma' was whether to book the Disney hotel that she and her husband wanted, or the villa favoured by their children, so all responses on this thread have been relevent.

Our reason for choosing to stay in a hotel rather than rent a private villa is the complete opposite to most other people here. So many people talk about how a villa "gives them extra space" and "more privacy". We have this all year round at home. We enjoy being so close together as a family by staying together in a hotel room. Yes, our children are young and this might change as they grow older, but at the moment they (and in fact DH and I too) enjoy sharing a room and being so close for the duration of our holiday. It brings us close together in a unique setting we could never acheive by staying off-site. There's something really nice about all being together at night in our beds in the room and watching TV or arguing over who uses the bathroom first! Then there are the wonderful themed surroundings of the resort, and the incredible convenience for accessing the parks. In my opinion, you just can't beat it!

Fine - it's all about personal preference. No wrong or right way.
We all have different thoughts and opinions - be boring otherwise. ;)
Lagunn has taken all the advice onboard and made a decision that's suits her best.

Fairy 'snuff - but In my opinion if that was our only option we wouldn't go ... I'd certainly stay at home!

As Johnny says, life would be boring ...

Hi Frances

How many kids and what ages are they? Just curious... you are right, maybe things will change as the kids grow older.

Must, er, kill the holiday "romance" a bit though... :rolleyes1

3, 6 and 8. I'm certain that things will change when they are older, but right now we're more than happy with the arrangements.

With regards to the "holiday romance", DH and I are fortunate to take numerous trips abroad by ourselves each year - our family trips to Disney aren't the time or the place! ;)

Yeah, 13, 16 and 18 might be more crowded - especially if they all get into wanting to spend lots of time in the bathroom making themselves look even more beautiful... ;)

Would imagine that it is fun, sharing a room at those ages - a bit like camping with the whole family :)
