I need your advice my fellow DIS'ers...

I'm deciding whether I should rent a car and go to Target and get all of the toiletries that I need (I don't want to bring any in my luggage) or if I should just order everything through gardengrocer and just rely solely on Disney transportation?

It's just myself and my DS5

Your thoughts?

why bring toiletries? shampoo and soap and toothpaste and toothbrush are available at the resorts. what else do you need. the more you smell, the further others will stay away from you.

Where are you staying? That may influence how handy a car will be.

We're on the monorail line (at the Polynesian ) and planning to spend most of our time at the Magic Kingdom and Epcot, so for us it would be an unnecessary expense.

By the way, you could always UPS a package of toiletries to yourself at the resort.

People on this site have scared me about how terrible the Disney transportation is, especially if you're going from one hotel to another and I'm just fearful that I might miss one of my ADR's because of a lousy bus driver...

Although I am the type of person who just wants to enjoy my vacation and take my time getting from place to place, and who cares about a full bus, there's always another one coming or I could walk my happy butt to another stop, right? I just want to have the perfect vacation as this is my first trip to WDW!!

I just want to have the perfect vacation as this is my first trip to WDW!!

I see you are switching resorts. We really enjoy not having to drive ourselves while on vacation and most of the time we don't mind if it takes a little bit of extra time to take the bus. I don't think there has been even one time when we really thought we would have been better off if we had rented a car - we don't want to have to search for parking spots, or have to drive ourselves anywhere after a long day in the parks. There are times when Disney transportation is more efficient (e.g. taking the bus to MK is the best way - if you drive, you have to park at the TTC, then take the monorail or boat to MK from there). We have used Gardengrocer three times and were extremely impressed each time. Great service, excellent quality. It's easily worth the $12 delivery fee to get a few items and save the time that would be needed to go offsite shopping. If you decide to go with Disney transportation, I would highly recommend using a taxi to change resorts - that way you know where your luggage is at all times, and you still don't have to do any driving. You can do the switch early in the morning, check in at POR, leave your bags with Bell Services if your room isn't ready yet, then head off to the parks. When you return your room will be ready, you can call Bell Services to bring your bags to your room. We have had awful experiences using Bell Services to transfer our luggage from one resort to another. It took 12 hours for us to receive our luggage on two separate trips. Its' no fun trying to get children ready for bed when you don't have your luggage!
We have had such wonderful experiences using Disney transportation - have met wonderful people in line and on the buses, boats, monorails and had some great boat captains and bus drivers. We look at using the Disney transportation as part of our magical experience. (Of course there have been times when we have had a long wait for a bus or a trip took quite a bit longer than expected - do *not* take a bus to DTD then transfer to a resort bus to get from resort to resort!!!! Our good experiences far outnumber the bad experiences). You can get helpful info (routes, travel time estimates) for traveling onsite using the transportation wizard:

jmtf2004 - you just made my mind up for me. You're awesome.

I mean it's a vacation, why stress? So I get to MK 15 minutes later....I kind of look at it as if I rent a car, I have to park and then take the tram all the way, where as with the monorail, it let's me off right there, right?

I mean Disney has been doing this long enough to have hopefully figured out all of the kinks by now.

I will save my $$$ by not renting a car and just using it towards a gardengrocer delivery instead.

As for the whole having to walk so far, I don't mind walking, it's not an issue to me; I like to exercise. I'm okay with having to walk an extra 100 yards to get to a different bus stop.

Maybe I'm the only one who thinks like this, but I just want people to be happy about being on vacation.....

My thoughts EXACTLY. But I guess some people feel offended for having to wait for a bus....

Relax....enjoy it....it's the Happiest Place on Earth after all!!!
