:surfweb: Here's the story:

DH and I are taking our DD9 on a suprise trip to DW in Feb. We have some friends who are going to be in another part of FL the same time. I think our friends will change their plans during their time down there to take their DD to DW just because we are. We want to just spend the time together as a family, not spend all our time with them, but we don't want to hurt their feelings. Normally, we would have told them as soon as we made the reservation.

Anyone have any thoughts on how to handle the situation?

Hmmm, I can't imagine me personally changing a trip because of what someone else is doing, but you know them best. Definately a hard situation. I guess since it is a surprise that when or if they find out you could just say well we weren't really telling anyone since we didn't want to slip in front of our daughter and have her hear. Or something along those lines. Probably very true too.

Would be an option for them to go to disney and it not really affect you? If that is so, then I would probably just tell them if subject came up

Can't you just ask the people who will be at DW with you to not say anything to whiny-daughter-family, explaining that you don't want their daughter to let it slip and spoil the surprise for your DD? (We surprised our kids and everyone else who knew was absolutely great about helping us keep the secret.) When whiny-daughter-family finds out later, you can just explain that you wanted to keep it a secret for your DD. If they say something like, "You should have told us - we'd have changed our plans," just say you never imagined they would reschedule their whole vacation around your family.

ETA: We have friends who actually rearranged a CRUISE to meet up with us in WDW. Luckily, we love them and we may even plan another trip with them in '08!

I don't get the problem. So what if the know you are at Disney! Disney is a big place you need never see them. Just never agree to meet them some place. The only one who can agree to meet is you so just don't do it.
