digitial camera for 6yr old

We got our daughter a Vtech one when she was 7 and she is now 9 and got lots of use out of it, she still uses it!!! It even has a few games she can play on the view screen and other options to add borders etc. to the pictures. I got a kid one as they can be dropped etc. and still work and that is the truth as she has dropped it alot.

We got my DD a Kodak EasyShare two years ago (right before she turned 5). She takes pretty good care of it, but it has been dropped a couple times with no lasting problems. It's easy enough for her to use, and there aren't many settings for her to "mess up." We got a neck strap, and she knows it needs to be around her neck when she's taking a picture, and it needs to be in the case when she's not using it.

I definitely vote for buying a less expensive "real" camera over a model marketed for kids, especially if he wants to print any photos.

We have had a couple of Kodaks and they have held up to use well, they just don't do well when they are stepped on.

I think if you want to have decent quality to the pictures you should totally avoid all child made products. My mother gave my DS6 her old Kodak Easyshare 2 years ago and it has held up GREAT! You can pick them up for not much more than the "kid" version cameras and the quality is WAY better!

I have also heard the ones made for kids are terrible quality for photos.

I would get a cheap real camera. Check with friends/family maybe someone has recently purchased a new one and they have an old one sitting around that they would give you or you could purchase at a low price.

Yup I agree with a bunch of the PP, my DD5 had the kid camera when she was 2 and it takes just awful pictures. My DD now has a real digital camera, a Kodak Easyshare. She has done very well with it and you can get them pretty inexpensive these days...in fact you can probably find one on clearance at walmart, target, best buy for less or close to the price of the kid cameras.
