Digital Video Camcorders?

Does anyone have one, what do you think? My DH has decided we need to upgrade and get a new camcorder. Any info and suggestions will be appreciated.

hmmm, I have a panasonic MiniDV with snapshot & digital picture capability. I love it. It's compact, has great brightness on the LCD screen & it has good zoom.

I have a Canon ZR45 (which I don't believe they make anymore -- only the ZR60 and up are available). I love the camera -- takes very good quality video and has the ability to take still photos (which we don't use much, since we have a digital camera too).

I highly recommend Canon's cameras.

I have a Sony TRV900 which I was happy with until I got an HD TV. Now anything not in HD looks poor to me. Unfortunately they don't make an HD consumer video camera yet. Anyway, I'd suggest you get the TRV950 camera - it is the one which replaced the TRV900.

We are looking into a new mini DV and are looking at the Sony b/c it has the night shot. How are the Panasonic and Canon with nighttime filming?

I would be sure it has anolog in so you can convert you old tuff to the digital format.

If your PC doesn't have a firewire port you will want one as the real fun of digital video is the ability to edit you stuff in the PC.

My panasonic fairs ok at night, but doesn't have nightvision... the higher up models do though; but I can't vouch for them as I don't have one!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions... we decided to try the
CANON ZR65MC. I'll let you know what we think when we take it on vacation. Now to eBay the old one to help pay for the new. =0)
