Digital versus Film Camera

This is actually a matter of the optics, not the media. There are digital cameras that have no trouble with moving objects.

This may also be an apple to orange comparision with the digital camera being a lower end camera with a narrow range of exposure controls or the camera settings are incorrectly set.

It does bring up a great advantage of a digital camera since you don't use film and the ASA/ISO is controlled by a camera setting where a 35mm film camera is set because of the film used. A digital camera you can change your setting for indoor and outdoor conditions "at the drop of a hat" where a 35mm you must wait until the roll of film is completed to change your ASA/ISO up or down. :wave2: Allowing you to take a picture outside of a ride, change your settings, go inside and take an exisiting light photo (no flash) without any issues. You typically can't do that with a 35mm.

We have a Canon digital A80 and a A95, and a 35mm Rebel. You have to get used to the "hold down the button before it takes" time on the digital. I haven't quite mastered the moving/motion shot yet with the digital so that is something to practice before we leave in Dec. My parents and brother each had an A95 before me and I really wasn't into digital but I finally got one this past spring. and now...
Took the A95 to a conference in July and had a blast with it; friend gave me her memory card after the trip and I took both of our pictures and put them on a CD. Did some cropping which was great. Eliminates the "exit sign above the head" syndrome when taking group shots.
I did notice I needed batteries half way thru the July trip so make sure you pack extra batteries or your charger. I think I was viewing the pictures in the evening so that took up some battery life.

go digital, especially if you have small children (like I)...the last thing you want to do is take those special pictures of you child with mickey only to find out at home that it was out of focus, cropped, bad lighting, etc....

I think a digital camera is a must! ::yes:: ::yes:: When i go to Disney i always pack a few extra memory cards, OR take the laptop with me so i'm able to clear the memory card each night by putting my photos onto the computer. It's much better than messing around with film. I always hated those cameras cos u cant see what ur pictures look like til u get them developed and they always go wrong for me.

I am diehard film - I love my 35mm camera!

Yes, I love that digital lets you see the pix as you take it, and allows you to retake the pix until it is "just right". BUT - I know that I would become obsessed with that perfect shot and drive everyone nuts. We would never make it past the front gates of the Parks, because I would be retaking the shot all day! Luckily, I am a pretty good photographer (so I am told), and most pix end up looking like post cards anyway.

The Very Best Thing about Film = not seeing the pix until they are developed! I LOVE the surprise! There are always surprisingly great shots, blooper shots, accidentally funny shots - all would be lost with digital previewing. I am also the type of person who keeps every print, even the bad ones, because there is still worth in them.

Also, Grandma appreciates the free Double Prints of her grandkids!

On my last trip I took 47 ROLLS of film!!!!! Talk about scrapbook addiction, it cost almost as much to develop the film as it did for the trip :goodvibes

This trip I will be going digital. I recetly bought the new Canon Powershot S2, and love it. It has virtually no shutter lag and catches action shots perfectly. It also has settings for fireworks (can't wait to try that out) it was supposedly designed for users who want the digital rebel but cannot afford the $1000 price tag or have time to learn a million differnet settings.
The powershot was $495 and uses sd memory cards.
This trip will be a 4 day cruise and then 8 days at Disney so I am taking 2 1G memory cards and praying that will be enough.
Like I said, total addiciton!

When we were there in 2002, we took 2 film cameras and a video camera. Well, the lens on one of the film cameras must have been smudged because we had 2 rolls of pictures where part of the picture was blurry. I was so upset because a lot of them were of the kids posing with characters. When we went last year and this year, we took the digital camera. It was so nice being able to see right away whether a picture came out or not.
