I have been thinking about buying a digital slr. I have a point and shoot model, and years ago had a 35mm fil slr. Do the new digital slr do everything automatically, like set the aperature, shutter, iso speed etc?
Or do you still have to set aeverything manually or id it a combination of both?

This will sounds like a smart *** question, but it's true.. The answer is...

Yes..

SLR's can do all you listed. They can be automatic, manual, or a combo.

A digital SLR is just like a film SLR except you don't insert film, you insert a memory card. Also you can change your ISO speed from shot to shot if you want. Where as with film you had to go through a full roll of one speed then rewind the film and insert another roll with a different speed. With digital you just press a button and turn a dial to change film speed.

What film SLR camera do you have? There is a possibility that the lenses you had with that camera could work on the same brand digital SLR.

I HAD a Pentax but sold it long ago. I wish i still had it now. I had a couple of lenses for it and filters, lightmeter, all the goodies lol.

You should check out the new Pentax models then. http://www.pentaxslr.com/bodies

I have had a K100D for two years now and have been very happy with it. If you can get a hold of any old Pentax mount lenses, they will work on the new DSLRs.
