Christy, beautiful as always! Love those beads! Did you ever decide on the DSLR or not? Did I tell you I sold my D40 and got the D90? It's a beast, lol but I'm getting the hang of it.
It's more buttons but less complicated because it has dedicated buttons for stuff instead of having to go through the menus to change it. It is heavier for sure but it took me awhile to get used to the D40 too. It also has less auto modes but that's forced me to think about what I'm doing and in the end I think I'm getting better pics. I been mainly shooting in Aperture priority with success. It took me a bit longer to get a handle on it but overall I'm happy with it. Yay for getting to play as long as you want! I could never go back either. DSLR's trump PnS all the way. I have some shots of my youngest DD going down the slide in succession, no way I could of gotten them with a PnS. I would have got one, not four super sharp, w/hilarious expressions hubby wants me to make into a GIF. LOLMy BIL said we could keep the D50 for as long as we want, so my hubby says we don't need to be in a hurry to buy our own. LOL! I'll never go back to a point and shoot though -- the pics with the SLR are so much better -- IMO. Ooooh -- the D90!!! You lucky girl. Does it seem a lot more complicated than the D40? How does it feel? Is it
heavier?

Hmmn, I think Two Peas has a free class with PDF's you can print out. I seriously recommend "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson. Buy it, don't borrow it because you'll read it repeatedly. He really puts it in terms that are easy to understand. I was dependent on Auto settings too but I'm really surprised and pleased to find myself knowing what to do. Even in manual settings the camera's meter will help you know what you need to do. Semi manual is a piece of cake once you get the idea of aperture and camera speed. If I 'get it' anyone can, trust me, lol.Sounds snazzy! I'm kind of overly dependent on the auto settings.... I really need to take a class and branch out a little. Someone recommeded a DSLR 101 type site on here a while back, and I didn't save the link and can't find the post, do you remember which one it was by chance? You mgiht have been the person who recommended it?
Thanks for the feedback everyone! I just feel like I am "cheating" when I lift a LO. I know I will get more comfortable in my design style, it just takes time. Hoping to get brave enought to join in on a challenge soon.....

Did a quick search, I found this very understandable:
http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/cg_display.asp?g=2&seed_id=26022
They have a bunch of 'plain English' photo articles.
I can't believe how fast you are moving along!! Your pages are GORGEOUS! I scraplift and use templates a lot too. There are so many options with digiscrapping that sometimes it helps to have a jumping off point. AWESOME job! And I need to take an SBC+ magic wand lesson from you! Please do join in some challenges soon!
