:confused3 Beginner photographer - have been using Pentax Optio 3.1 MP for the last 3 years - love the camera however wanted more options with lens'.

Purchased Nikon D50 last Friday (love it!) however I know it does more than I can possibly know - still reading literature however I have taken over 300 practice shots at a recent weekend trip away - I have a 1 gig memory card and have plenty of space left

I was looking to purchase a Digital photography book but don't want anything that speaks over my head, also, I am planning to take and Adult Ed class in the summer for digital photography so I can keep advancing my skills - but in the mean time

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK YOU LIKE AND HAVE USED TO HELP YOU UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENT MODES AND FLASHES/LIGHTING? Please share, I wanted to get something for this upcoming weekend.

Thanks.

Hi hooksenemy i too have just purchased the nikon D50 its the first SLR i have had so it is foreign to me but i bought 2 books to help me
Digital photography for dummies-by David D Busch.
Nikon D50 digital field guide also by David D Busch
They are both very good.

I also have the D50 and got the same books as Deedee. However, the one book I've found thus far to be the most usefull is "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson. This book will get you out of the program modes and into M, S & A which is where you want to be. He doesn't talk over your head at all. Uses great examples and explains how aperture, shutter speed, ISO and light all work together. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I second that book. I also highly recommend Enjoy dSLR website tutorial. Also I've just bought "Digital Photography Jumpstart Guide instruction DVD" from eBay.

Between the three of them, I don't think you'll need anything else.

I also have read "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson. If you do get it make sure you get the Revised edition.

Would that be from 2004? That seems to be what Amazon has.

I'd also recommend Thom Hogan's eBook on the D50: Link

There'll be more info on using the D50 than you'll ever want to know in Thom's guide.
