Has anyone purchased a digital camera in Orlando (Belz outlet). We are going in September and I don't know if I should wait to purchase one in the States or just buy one here. I am wondering if they are any cheaper in Orlando even with the exchange rate. Thanks!!!!

We looked high and low for a bargain on a digital camera for my son. There wasn't much difference in the price, and there is no warranty on them in Canada unless you purchase international warranty. I know one of the larger electronics stores offered international warranty for a price.

We came home and waited a month and got what my son wanted for the same price.

I would buy it in Canada.

Places like Best Buy (in both US and Canada) have comparable prices in both of their stores, so you are getting the camera for roughly the same cost whether you buy it in the US or Canada.

Also, if you are buying it for a trip you are going to want a little time to figure out any bells and whistles and find what works best with the brand and style you purchased - practice makes perfect.

Also, you can watch for sales to pick up extra memory cards and batteries before you leave - these are items that seem to be especially expensive at camera stores.

If you are looking for a deal, I can hook you up with my "direct" sales contact at Carmen's. I purchased my camera there and have referred other friends and family to them.

Not sure about the cameras, but the disks that our camera uses were much cheaper at the Wolf Camera Store at Belz Outlet Mall. My husband said they were about half the price they were at home even with the exchange. I would agree about buying the camera in Canada just in case you need warranty service.

Hmmm My experience was different. We recently drove to Idaho to meet family for a weekend and we looked at cameras at BestBuy. We had done much shopping and research in Canada, including BestBuy. We bought our Cannon digital for 360cdn with the exchange. The same camera sells for 449cdn here. I am sure it has alot to do with luck, timing and the part of the US / Canada you are shopping in. So I think it has to be up to you if you want to take the chance. But Im sure you wont pay more in the US than you would in Canada. However, do you really want to be camera shopping on your holiday? Also I agree with needing time to learn how to use it. It took me days to get the hang of mine. :sunny:
By the way, we bought Bestbuy's extended warranty and it works in both Canada and the US.

Buy it here any US warranty is not valid in Canada. I called Nikon to ask about an American D70 and teh warranty and they won't even touch it up here it has to be sent to the US. The US warranty on it was 1 year parts 90 days labout Canadian warranty is 2 years parts and labour makes more sence to get it here so we did.

Thanks everyone for all of your help. I think I will purchase one here before we leave for Florida. Now, my next question is there a big difference between a 4 and 5 pixels camera. Also any recommendations for a make of camera. I was leaning towards a Canon but also considering a Minolta or Olympus. Thanks !!!!!!

Imyself would go for the Cannon. I actually dabble in photography and love my cannon. It depends on how much you plan on using your camera for. If its just for Disneyworld and pictures with the kids? I myself have a 5 pix. one and I love it, however Ive also has a 3.5 on my last camera and it was great too.

Try Henry's as well, they have a web site if your not in the GTA they often have really good prices on cameras and since all they deal with is camera's they are quite knowlegable. If you live in The Hamilton/Burlington area or can get there Camtech in Hamilton is quite good and Burlington Camera is quite good too.

Have fun. But whatever you do buy it here, Usually 99% of the time Canadian warranties on anything are better.

We had a Canon G2 it was great 4 MP but slow I now only use Nikon stuff we have a Nikon D70 now replaced by the D70s they are SLR cameras. As for difference in the 4 and 5 MP you really won't notice a great deal of difference. I would purchase a Nikon coolpix line my SIL just got the 4700 I think it is and what a great little camera it is.
