Am going on a short trip in a couple of days and need your help. I just bought a digital camera and am wondering how these work with screening machines. This would be in my carry on bag and not in a checked piece of luggage. I know that you are not supposed to get these near certain things and would hate for it to get ruined before I even get there. Do I pull this out and hand it to the screener to check for themselves that it's a digital camera?

HELP!!!
:(

Just returned yesterday with a digital camera in my carry-on backpack. It worked fine coming and going through the airport screening. Just left the camera in the bag and didn't have to get it out. The screening equipment had no affect on the pictures stored in the camera.

I would take the camerea in carry on. I have taken mine plenty of times and no problems. If you pack it you have a greater chance of not having it upon arrival. :(

Thanks for responding so quickly. You've put my mind at ease. Since I'm only going away for 4 days, am taking the rolling carry-on bag that I have that fits above the seats in the plane, so no need to check anything. I just bought another 128MB memory card and was afraid I was going to lose all the pictures I am going to take. Going to a family reunion and did not want to lost any shots. Also, the 128MB cards are like $70 and it looks to take 82 pictures (fine mode). I was looking at Sony's 256mb cards that are going for like $120. How many pictures does this hold?

I just bought a Canon A70. When I bought the camera I also bought a 128mb flashcard. I didn't even open it and returned it and bought the 256mb flashcard. It was $70.00 and holds about 210 pictures at 3 mp. The 128 only held about 108. Costco has the 256mb for $49.99 which is a good price.

Digital cameras nor the digital media within them (compactflash, secure digital, etc.) are affected by x-ray machines.

Be sure to format your memory cards for your particular camera when you first get them. That is one of the main reasons for people losing their digital pictures!

Also, just in case! if you accidentally delete pictures or lose them, there is (usually) a way to retrieve them! just don't do anything with the card after you know they've been lost. Do a search on the web, there are several programs that will retreive the lost files for you. whew! :D

crzy4dsny,
Thanks for the info. I paid $50 yesterday for a 128mb card. Can't return it since I already opened it, but will head for my local BJ's before my WDW trip and see if they have the 256mb card. I'm kicking myself in the but right about now for buying 2 128's, but now I know.

I have been carrying a digital camera for years because of business. In all those years nothing has been affected.

Once you put the card in your camera it will set up the files on the card that it needs. Just remember to format the card every so often but only do it in the camera NOT IN YOUR COMPUTER.

You will have a great time with your camera. No worry about the photos.

I wouldn't worry about not having a 256 mb card. It is better to have several smaller ones so that if you lose one or something happens to the card you haven't lost all your images.
