We brought our laptop and downloaded our pictures as needed. We also bought extra memory cards. For other ideas, here is a thread that could help you about a digital wallet and memory cards, etc:

Ditto! It has been very easy for us to bring the laptop and empty the cards every night. Without a laptop, I would bring extra memory cards.

Hey no one is home tonight and the stereo is at 11 playing Santana here .Yep a FOG but just before my May 03 trip I purchased a Casio EX-Z3 this thing fits in a Hawaiian shirt pocket. An extra battery and memory is smaller than a back up back up $20. From here on its cargo shorts only. Look for the newer smaller sized digitals and remember what your final need might be. A 3.2 meg is enough for most Pics my hammy 8X10's look great with a decent printer.

After reading another DIS's bad experience with DW downloading their pics and losing all of them, I would recommend just bringing extra memory sticks/cards. These are small and come with little stickers, so you can mark your disks. Depending on how many pics you plan to take, I would recommend either 2 128mb sticks/cards or a 128 & 256mb sticks/cards. When I went away recently, I had brought 2 128mb sticks and filled them both. Brought them home, downloaded them onto my pc and away I went with e-mailing, printing, etc.

Oh, and before I forget. Your camera will come with a battery (or 2 depending on the camera). Buy an extra set and make sure to bring those AND your battery charger with you. The charger I have for my Cybershot is small and the plugs fold in, so it lies flat in my bag.

Everyone's different, but my opinion is just bringing plenty of extra memory, enjoy yourself, then download when you get home.

My digital camera is an Olympus Stylus 300. It's small, takes great pictures and is very durable. One charging of the battery is enough to take over 200 pictures. The card it comes with is only 16mb, but with a couple of 128mb cards, I am all set.

Let me just say three words: KODAK, KODAK, KODAK!

I have not found any digicams out there that are easier to use than the Kodak EasyShare series. They just came out with a brand new group of them and they look great. I own an older DX3600, and take it everywhere. Kodak prides themselves on having an entire system: Camera, software, and printing. The camera's controls are all very straightforward--no guesswork here. It's a perfect balance between simplicity and power. The software is very simple to use, but also has some more advanced features if you like that stuff. They also now have a dock and printer system. You can buy either a dock for the computer that allows you to charge your batteries and transfer your pics with the push of a button, or you can buy a printer dock that does all of that but also prints borderless photo-lab quality prints.

I got a Minolta S414 this summer and like it a lot, however, it would not be all that easy to use for beginners and it's not small either. It takes great pictures. When buying a digital camera, the important things to look at are: picture quality, resolution, type of batteries, and optical zoom (don't bother with digital zoom). I hope this information is helpful.

I second "Linda in Sunny SC" about Steve's Digicams. I used his site to research my purchase of a Minolta Dimage 7xi. It is a great camera, but not a beginners model. I have always had great success with Minolta.

Another good site is http://www.imaging-resource.com. Not only reviews, but also good tips.

Also, once you narrow your search, it is good to go to a store and try a few out - see how they feel, weight, etc.

As far as batteries, my Minolta is a TOTAL battery hog! The external battery pack Minolta sells is over $300 dollars, but I found a nice one at Maha Energy: www.mahaenergy.com for about 60 dollars. Lasted for two days before it need recharging.

I bought a olympus c720 before our trip last year. Love the camera - it has 8x optical zoom. I take a lot of candid pictures of my kids and with a zoom like that I don't have to be close to them.

It doesn't take good night shots at all though. I use my old 35mm for those.

I was just reading this thread for the heck of it but decided to brag on my new Canon. It is my second digital and we love it. It has a remote control, swing out viewing screen or veiwfinder.
It can be programmed or used as a point and shoot.
If any of you out there have a Canon EOS you will find the G3 to be very familiar.
The viewing screen is bright enough to see in all but really bright sun.
The battery is great. I have made over 300 pictures in 4 MP mode without charging it. You can use it all day, charge it over night and be ready to go again.
It came with a silly little 32 meg Compact Flash card but I upgraded at Sams to a 256 for $49. I will get one more before heading to MK in Dec.
One more note. Sams will print your pics for you at .20 each. They are on Fufi paper and look great.

Just had to brag on my G3.
