Digital Camera Users - What printer do you use

I am starting my next stage of research, which is finding a good photo printer. Right now I use online services, but within a couple of months, I would like to purchase a new printer.

I currently have a Canon BJC-2010 that I got free with my computer but want a nice photo printer.

Keep in mind, I will be using my pictures for scrapbooking so I don't know if I should go with an Epson or HP.

Any help with names and model numbers would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you know of any to stay away from, please warn me of that as well. Thanks...

we recently bought a new printer. We got the EPSON Stylus Photo 820. it does borderless printing and has seperate blank and ink color cartridges. The color has 5 colors in it and the black for 6 total colors. It has the PRINT image matching technology.

I have been very pleased with the quality of it so far. and it's price was right, at $99 bucks.

The Epson photo printers are a great printer for photos. Their print life is longer than traditionally printed photos. But if you are doing it for scrapbooks then you want to look at the C82. It only uses 4 pigmented inks.

The archival life of the C82 is up to 80 years stored traditionally. But in an archival scrapbook you are talking double that amount of time.

We do not yet have a digital camera, but recently needed a new printer. We did some research on printers, knowing that we are planning on buying a digital camera soon. We were looking for a printer that also scans and copies, and discovered a new Epson that does both. It is the Stylus CX5200. It cost around $200 which is in the same price range as other brands, and it also has the 80 year archival life for the ink.

We found out about this printer on line, but had to do some searching to find a store that sold it. We finally found it at the Gateway store. So far, we have not had any problems and the print quality is great.

I have a hp professional series 970cse. It prints great photos, we use a memory stick so we bought the hp photosmart 100 that prints 4x6 prints. You dont even need to have it connected to computer. Pictures from this are really clear and color is wonderful.

I've also been in the market for a new photo-quality printer -- so many to choose from. Although I've not made my final decision, I did find the following artile from PC World to be very helpful in narrowing down my choices. The best part of the article (for me) was page four -- a table displaying the "life" of photos printed on a particular paper by a particular printer. I hope this is useful for you.

To get the best results you should use the paper made by the manu. of your printer. The paper is designed to work with the ink, soaking in and drying a certain way. If you use another paper you may not get the desired results.

Most aftermarket paper is not designed to be archival either.

Epson has several papers that are acid free. Most photo paper is not acid free.

I use my HP Photo Smart P1100, which I love!! It prints great pictures and I love how I can just slip my MB card into the slot on the side and download the pictures from there! I am really happy with it and we use the HP Premium Plus Glossy Photo Paper, which is excellent quality paper for pictures!

You want to see what the archival life is when printing your photos. Typically when printing on glossy paper print life is 10-15 years.

There are papers that have longer archival lifes.

We were not impressed with the photo paper and printer quality. I take our digital pictures to the local Sam's Club where they make beautiful matt finish prints from our digital camera for only $0.20 a print, and that's 1 hour. Better prints and saves my time and ink.

The point I am trying to make is that with using your inkjet printer with archival inks and papers your prints will last longer than the ones you get printed at the store.

I would rather pay a little more now to have my photos last.
