I went over to Executivecameras.com and ordered a new (not reconditioned) Olympus 720- 3 MP, 8 x optical zoom /3 x digital zoom for $319!:earseek:
Best Buy had the same camera for $499! For the low price I got, I went ahead and ordered the 128 MB Smart Media Card for an additional $70 (Best Buy wanted $80)
Does anyone have this camera and what do you think of the price I got? I hope Executivecameras is a reliable company. They had fairly good reviews but you always worry when ordering over the net!

TC - Congrats on entering the 21st century world of digital photography. My only advice is to keep an eye out for sales on Smartmedia. Since your camera uses a common form of memory, you can often find it on sale at Best Buy, Staples, Office Max, and CompUSA for dirt cheap. $70 is a pretty good price for 128Mb, but I believe that I've seen it as low as $40 on sale.

Be careful. My wife bought a Nikon over the internet that was suppose to be have a US warranty. It turned out that the warranty card was a fake and the company is out of business. Nikon is refusing to service the camera because it is gray market. Luckily, we used American Express and they have charged back the retailer and credited our account. Yea American Express.

Sounds like a good deal..

A cheaper place to possibly get memory cards is ecost.dom...I have seen 256 MB cards for around $100..:)

Hope you like it...

Believe it or not, Wal Mart sells the cards cheap. My camera uses the Compact Flash, but their prices were half of what the Nikon prices were.

Also, WalMart makes photographic prints of your digipics. They've got readers that take ALL the different digital media.

(used to be a major Target shopper til they changed their return policies....quickly finding those bargains at WalMart, LOL)

Congratulations on your pick!

I have the Olympus C-4040Z & love it! I have a friend with the C- 700 (2 meg w/10x zoom) & he loves it.
That 8x optical zoom is awsome!

Good luck with the internet purchase, I have similiar fears.

Unfortunately, the largest Smart Media card you can get is the 128Meg (Shep must be refering to CF) but I have bought a bunch from Sam's Club for $50 each. As the OTHER TC says (LOL), look in the weekly ads for sales that can meet or beat the $50 price & the internet has similar deals too.

As Dan says, keep us posted by posting some pictures soon!
I hope to see you at an Ohio meet this summer taking some great pictures!

I'm sure you'll have alot of fun with this camera.

Thanks for all the good advice! I will keep my eyes open for lower card prices! I spent the better part of the morning reading Zurg's digital camera primer. Very helpful Zurg!!! Since the Olympus 720 does not have rechargable batteries when you initially buy it, I also bought the Maha PowerEx C-204F with 4 batteries. Now I will be all set to play with my new toy!:teeth:
