Well as I posted a couple weeks ago I got the Nikon D70 for xmas. I found it took very grey pictures and I had been on the phone with Nikon so many times and still unsatisfied.....so I returned it.:(

Now I need to find a camera. What do you have? How do you like it? Lag time?
I loved my HP850 but the hubby trashed it dragging it on business trips. I would like something fast, 6 mega pixals or up....anyone have any advice.

thanks
cindy

I love our Olympus, it's a Camedia. It's only 4 megapixels but the color is great and it's easy to use. I would think it would get better w/more megapixels. I've also heard wonderful things about the Canon Rebel Digital. I'm not sure what your price range is, I think that runs close to $1,000.

Good luck!

The Canon Rebel is great - it's around $900.00. We also bought the more powerful flash and then the telephoto lens, so our total cost is now up to $2,000.00.

This camera is the first digital one that I can compare to my beloved Minolta 35 mm!!

DH got the Canon 20D as an early christmas gift from hist parents back on October. It is on par with the Nikon D70 and he spent alot of time comparing the two. He has been very happy with the 20D, and has taken many unbelievably, beautiful pictures with it. The 8.2 megapixel is great for blowing pictures up into posters. He had a few photos printed the last minute before our cruise at the CVS, they loved the pictures so much they asked if they could put a few on display! One of them is a poster of Wishes fireworks over the castle. (It's kinda funny to go in there and see our pictures, lol)

I wasn't crazy about the idea of spending so much on a camera, and now I am wondering why we waited so long. Before we had a 4 megapixel sony and the pictures looked great online, but always printed out very grainy, no matter what we did. Many times I was upset because I wanted to scrapbook the photos, but they didn't print out well enough. DH was convinced that if he got a very good camera that would change, and it has!

If you are looking for a camera as good as the nikon D70 -- try the cannon 20D :) See if your local camera shop has a rental program.. ours does and we were going to rent the both the cannon and the nikon for a day and try them out.

A couple of days ago, I was looking at amazon.com -- I think there are some rebates on the cannon if you buy a body/lens combo (the rebates might end soon, though) We also found a Lexar 2Gig memory card at pcmall.com for a good price, you'll want the faster type though. (It writes to the card faster)

I am sorry that the nikon didn't work out for you, I remember reading your post, how happy you were.. I think you said that DH gave it to you a bit before christmas, so you could take pictures christmas day? I hope those pictures came out well for you.

If you have any other questions for, I'm sure DH will be glad to answer, just PM me! (he did enough research, I'd love to put it to good use!)

I have a Kodak Easy Share. Wondeful camera, so easy to use. I have a 3.1mp camera. I also got a 1G card to go in it so it will hold 1092 pics in my camera. It will hold 777 in a 4mp camera.

I have taken numerous pics at Disney my last trip and a lot of them come out postcard quality and some thought they actually were post cards. Even firework shots come out fantastic.

I think the one I got (got it for xmas in 03 so not totally sure) was around the 300 mark, but they could be less by now.

I'm also hoping to get a new digital camera before our cruise this summer (unfortunately, it's not on Disney), but I want the kind that you can change lenses (SLR???). My 35mm is a Minolta, so I have a few lenses for that, but I'm not sure if Minolta has a digital that you can change lenses on. I have heard a lot about the Canon Rebel, but I know my lenses won't fit it. I also have access to some Nikon lenses (my father loved his Nikon cameras and he died several years ago, my mother has said that I can have anything I want as far as his cameras). Can anyone recommend a good Minolta or Nikon SLR digital? I was kind of looking at the Nikon D70, but after reading this thread, I'm concerned that I won't be happy with it.

I can't believe how many different cameras we all have.

A couple ?s....

Canon Rebel? Do the pix come out good in the auto modes? I was looking for that with the Nikon and then hoping to learn how to use the manual as I moved on. But when comparing the Nikon shots to my HP shots side by side the HP was way better. Hard to believe.

Canon 20D....does it have auto settings like B/W, portrait, action etc.?

And a little help for the Minolta lover. They just came out with a new digital and I do believe you can change lenses. One feature I remember vividly is that the stabilizer is built into the camera not the lense. This could be huge when using digital zoom.

Off to check out a website Heather recommended and look at her pix.

Thanks again!!!

I have the Olympus C4000 which I absolutely love, have been using it for about 4 years but because it is a bit on the larger size I just purchased the Sony W1 5 mg and I LOVE it, clear and great pictures and it fits in a pocket which is what I wanted for WDW when I go

I ahve a Koday easy share and really like it. Takes good pictures and they print out well. It is also easy to use and fits easily in a pocket, fanny pack or purse.

I asked about Minolta at Wolf Camera yesterday and they were telling me all about the new camera. They speak very highly of the image stabilizer, but they have never actually tried the camera yet (only read reviews). It sounds great, but the price is around $1600. I was hoping to stay around $1000. I know I'll have a hard time convincing my husband that we should buy a camera that costs that much, especially since I just bought my Olympus about 2 years ago. Maybe the price will go down before our trip.

..a funny comment about the image stabablization... DH had read all about the image stabalization on the cannon 20D .. fast forward a month after we get it, and we are on our first disney cruise, he keeps complaining about some of the pictures he's taking, even goes as far as getting the tripod, to steady the camera.. the next day, on the island, it dawns on him, he was on a ship! There was nothing wrong with the camera... it was the ship that was moving! :earboy2:

I have the Canon Digital Rebel 300D, A couple steps below the 20D and we LOVE IT!! Took it on our cruise last month and have BEAUTIFUL photos to show for it. They are awesome. A friend of ours bought the 20D, but we just couldn't go the $1500 for it. Especially since we want to buy all sorts of filters and lenses for it. Can't wait to compare shots from his upcoming vacation though just to see the differance in the 6.3 MP our 300D is and his 8 mp 20D. Either are great cameras.

Please compare the two and let us know if you are able to see a difference. I probably won't get a new camera until my birthday in April, so I have plenty of time to shop around.

So much infor.......I am in a spin.....guess I need to go out and do a little more research. I will keep you all posted.

Princess Tori...I agree 1500 is alot for a camera but I would gladly pay it for awesome pic quality. Thats what I expected from the D70....1700 $$ was too much for grainy grey shots.

I have a Kodak EasyShare 4.0 and it takes great pictures, except for inside at a distance. I couldn't get one good picture at DS's honor roll assembly or DB's graduation. The pictures turned out VERY blurry. I tried using every setting and got the same results.

Anyone else have this problem???

I have the Sony cyber-shot DSC-T1...it's a 5.0 mega pixels with a 3x optical zoom. The camera itself is great...just LOVE it. Takes wonderful pics. We took it on our Disney crusie this past year...and invested in a H20 pack so we could take it underwater...worked wonderfuly... It does has some downfalls though It's small ( which is not a downfall)......reall small...which is great because I can take it ANYWHERE. Fits in my pocket no problem (it's about the size of a credit card)
But with it being sooo small...the lense isn't very big...although it's a great lense (a carl zeiss)...it just isn't big enough to let alot of light in...so indoor pics don't turn out AS well as outdoor/well lit pics. And with it being soooo small the zoom isn't large.

We took a few hundrend pics on our cruise...and i have to say not very many didn't turn out. So over all it's a great camera. Oh yea...lag time...not much lag at all.

Ditto that. The software is easy to use as well. It takes amazingly good pictures and I only paid around $300 for mine. If you buy it at Staple's and find it cheaper somewhere else within 10 days, you can bring the ad in and they will price match it 110% too! :cool1:

GoofyMom/Pop, I am so sorry you had problems with the Nikon D70. We have used a friend's occassionally when we are together & really, really like it. Just the other night he brought over a disk with several photos we all took using the camera, & we printed out several for family & friends.

Good luck deciding on a new camera!
