I bought a Vivitar 3915 digital camera yesterday at Target for $99. I couldn't pass it up, it was a good deal. I bought it for my trip in Dec. I also bought a 256mb memory card for it from circuitcity.com. I am learning about it so I can be familar with it before the trip, I don't want a repeat of my June trip where I borrowed my mom's camera and accidentally erased all my Disney pics! :sad1: It can go from 5 megapixels on down. If I were to put it on 3 megapixels would that be good too? Does anyone have this camera? Is it good? Any tips?

Thanks!

In general, how much megapixels you need depends on what you want to do with it.

What is your plans - how do you deal with pictures? If you just print out 4x6 from them (no cropping, don't blow up to 8x10, etc) - then YES 3mp is plenty! (and allows you to get much more onto your card).

If you edit/crop/blow up your pictures, then you might want the extra file 'room' to play with.

However, since this camera has NO optical zoom, only digital - my recommendation is to NOT use the digital zoom and shoot everything at 5mp. That way you can crop down to a 2-3 mp picture later and still get nice looking pictures.

Personally, I spend the little bit more money and get something with at least some optical zoom.

Good luck!
