Greetings Fellow Budgetears:

I am in need of a new digital camera. My dear hubby gave me his camera and bought himself a new one. The one he gave me is truly horrible! :headache: I hate it! So, that one will be going elsewhere...:rolleyes1

I need a:

Digital camera
smallish in size--you know, one that can slip into a pocket or purse
easy to use
takes great pics
is less than $200

Any recommendations?

I don't have a specific one for you, but wanted to tell you to get one with a lithium battery. The ones that just take regular batteries(even rechargable ones) are a real pain. The batteries just don't last and you will spend more money on them. I have a canon camera(paid more than $200 for) but I do like the Canon or Sony brands of any cameras I have had. Olympus is suppose to be pretty good too. My kids have digital Kodaks, but if I had to do it over again, I would have gotten them a different brand.

I got my DD9 the FujiFinePix and I really like it! Small and takes great photos! Olympus also makes the FE model that is really nice and compact that you may consider.

As opposed to scootch, I love regular rechargeable batteries. I use them for both of my Olympus cameras (regular & undewater) and they last a long time between charges - I also have two sets of batteries so that while one set is charging I'm using the other set so I'm never without charged batteries. I haven't had to replace the rechargeable batteries in about 4 years, so they last and they cost less than $15.00. My Nikon has the lithium battery and doesn't take regular batteries which is a big bummer since it takes forever to charge and the charge doesn't last too long.

Try going on the B&H Photo site and you can search by camera type and they have great prices!

I recommend the Canon PowerShot SD1200IS ,

this camera is Highly Recommended.

BTW, there is a Free 4 GB SD Memory Card now if u buy camera at amazon.

If u like smallish in size, you can also have a look at the Flip UltraHD Camcorder.

Santa:santa: just brought this for me and I LOVE it! I have only played around with it a little and it seems very easy to use...has 10x zoom, (which I love!) the screen is really large even though the camera is not.

I got a new Sanyo camera for Christmas and I like it a lot. 10 megapixels, very small, takes very nice photos. DH got it at Walmart.

I have the 8 meg version of this. It is a great little camera and the one I keep in my purse. I do have a DSLR, but this one ends up getting used more as it is always with me.

While I agree that the canon is a great camera, I own one, I think from what the OP said she would like something a little easier to use.

I would suggest a fuji z20fd

I also own this camera and recommend it highly. Right now it is being discontinued so the price is rising.

Try to find it around $139 but if you can't it is still worth the $162

This camera is a true point and shoot, very easy to use. The Canon is a little more involved as you have to set it to get the correct setting for the shot.

I use to use a kodak, then I got a Canon and will never go back. Canon's are great!! I own 870is (older model) and an sx10is. After tons of research I just purchased an sd 1200is. It is on many top 10 lists. Walmart has them for 149. You can try it, if you don't like it; take it back. Easy to use; set it on auto or try out the manual features. Also, takes video clips (while they won't be as great as a camcorder, it is a nice feature to have)

Can anyone recommend one $80 or under? I'm trying to find a cheap one for my sister inlaw...hers is 10 years old and SUCKS!!!

Cannons are great. We have 4 in our family, all less than $250.

I have one that was recommended last year on here, Panasonic Lumix, and honestly I'm not thrilled. I bought a Nikon 230 touchscreen (the one Ashton plays with in a commercial) for ds and he seems to be loving it. It was $150 but it may depend on color for price. When I bought, it included a 2gb memory card at Amazon. I've seen them at Walmart and Target as well.

I really like my Canon PowerShot A710 IS. It does take 2 AA batteries. I bought 4 AA and a charger (both Energizer) and it's all I have needed even on my two week trip to WDW. I had about 17G in memory cards as I was also filming video.

I don't think it's hard to use at all. I mostly leave it on auto.

a little more info would be great.

what camera did your husband give you?

what was it about it you did not like?

This is the camera my hubby gave me. I do not like it because it is too big and heavy. It has the slowest shutter speed of any camera I have ever used. By the time photo takes everyone's smiles have melted or they have moved on or if it is an action shot, the subject is long gone from the frame. And you cannot use it inside even with the flash. The photos will be dark and grainy if they even take at all. If you are taking a shot of something in the distance it will focus on something closer and you cannot change its digital mind.

ARG!

Is the super zoom of this camer important to you? If so they I would check out the Sony Cybershot DSC-H20. It runs around $220 on Amazon but it is a great camera in the super zoom category.

If you do not care about the extra zoom and just want a small basic camera then I would get the Canon first mentioned on this thread. DD10 has it and I use it all the time. The photo quality is excellent and it is very compact. It is also very easy to use.

In the case you posted above then I would recommend the Canon everyone has been talking about since you can set the camera for action shots and to snap continuously.

From what you first posted I thought you just wanted a very easy simple point and shoot camera which the Fuji Z is.

Not to make it sound bad, but any new camera under $80 is also likely to suck...

I highly suggest nikon or canon. they usually have the best lenses. I have a couple of canons and love them. My point and shoot is a little dated now and a bit slow, but I still love it. the newer models are much faster.
