Digital Camera Question

There seems to be lots of knowledgeable camera users on this board so I am hoping you can help.

My DH just bought me a Kodak DX6440 for Xmas .

I am just looking into additional memory so here are my questions:

What is the diff between compact flash, SD, and an MMC card. I know this camera says to use SD or MMC.

Do most of you buy one 512K card or two 256K card? Where is a good place to get memory? I looked at Costco and the prices seem reasonable.

I read an article that Sandisk was having a big problem with their SD cards. Did this affect any of you camera users? I know people with PDA's and mp3's had a big problem.

Congrats on the new camera. You'll have loads of fun with it.

I had not heard about the problem with Sandisk. I have one of their cards and don't have any problems with it.

I use 2 256K cards. That way I can always have one available.

Dan Murphy knows of some great sites to order them from. One he suggested to me was www.ecost.com and that's where I got one of mine at a wonderful rate.

I too use 256's, one for the above reason and also 512's are still generally more costly than 2 256's. In addition to that site Michelle listed (a good one), I have also used www.buy.com with good results. Maybe also check www.overstock.com and check using www.ebates.com in conjunction with any of them, as well as hundreds of other sites.

I use Sandisk also, no problems. As for memory, it is all similar in what it accomplishes, data storage, but you are limited by what type your camera uses. Compact flash is the most commonly used today, but others are popular also.
