I'm already thinking about how I'm going to spend my Christmas gift money and I think I'd like a digital camera. I'm looking at the Kodak EasyShare system. Any thoughts or advice?

TIA & Happy Holidays!

I am not sure about the Easy Share cameras. I do own the Kodak DC4800. It is a 3.1 mp and I just love it. I got it a little over 2 years ago. I also have a Sony 2 mp and I prefer to use the Kodak over the Sony. Also, remember you photos are only going to be as good as your printer. I have a Canon and it is great. I have also learned how to play with my Kodak and take gorgeous pics of the fireworks. It is all trial and error. Kinda nice to dump the yucky pics and retake as needed. Good luck with you purchase!!

I have that same camera, it is part of the EasyShare line. I got the docking station with mine, and I love that. When it's not in use, it sits on its dock, so it's always charged, and I don't have to mess with either USB cables or taking out the card. I don't print pictures at home, I use ofoto when I can wait (.29/print, plus shipping, but Ofoto's quality is a little better so I don't mind paying the extra for shipping. ) or Ritz locally when I can't (.33/print), so I cannot speak to the printer issue. My thought on that is that the consumables are far more expensive in the long run that using the service, but of course it is much more convenient to be able to print at home. I believe your camera is only as good as your lens, and the Kodaks come highly rated. Also, the most important feature - even more, imho, than mps, is optical zoom. You want as much as you can afford. It makes a huge difference. The one thing I do not like about my Kodak is its size, shape & materials. It's a little chunky, and it's kinda plasticy. But I have friends who tell me that they cannot tell the difference between the shots I take with my SLR and those from the digi, so that says something. I was a semi-professional photographer in a previous life, so I am very choosy about my camera and pictures, but I also believe that price does not always equal quality. You do not need to buy all the bells & whistles to get a good camera.

Oh, before I forget, make sure to save enough $$ to buy a 128 mg card, you'll want the extra strorage w/o a doubt.

My digi has been the best thing that's ever happened to my family photographically speaking. When I upload pictures to ofoto, I send an email to our family all over the country, and they can keep up with my daughter's life events. Best of all, instead of always buying doubles (and you never really need all of them doubled!), and instead of using my judgment as to the pictures they will like best, my family can purchase just the pictures that they like from ofoto.

You will NOT regret the purchase. Happy shopping!!

Try this web site before you buy any camera. They are extremely helpful!

I ended up with the Samsung Digimax v4. I really like it. Hate the soft ware that came with it but over all it seems like a good camera. Fairly easy to use. has all the bangs and whistles but also has an easy mode.
one thing I would stress really check out the power source Some cameras will only use a certain type and if you run out of battery you may not be able to stop in and just buy a battery...(just food for thought)

My husband got me the easy share camera. This is the second digital camera he has bought me. Last year I cried for an hour becasue I just could not figure out how to work it. (Not a big tech person) This time he went to CompUSA an they offer a free 3 hour class when you buy one. I'm so exicted!! However DH will not let me open the box till I walk in the class just so I won't stress over it. He also got me a HP photo printer instead of the photo dock. The CompUSA guy said it was a lot better, fast and mad cheaper prints in the long run. I'm not opening that till I figure out the camera part.

My DH bought me a Easy share digital camera for Christmas this year and he bought the docking printer. He wasn't sure and went back and forth and of course the workers at Best Buy weren't helpful. He was wondering about print quality but we printed out some of the pictures we took yesterday and they are as good as any you would have develped at Walmart etc. The print quality is amazing. He said what did it for him he was in Best Buy and teh Kodak rep was there and took a picture and printed it out for him. Best Buy workers wouldn't do that and kept telling him to buy the full size printer. I would not recogmend printing all the pictures because it would be expensive but for special ones that you want right then. You are also suppose to be able to buy postcard paper and be able to print out your own postcards which would be cool. Hope this helps.

FYI....my Kodak DC4800 IS NOT part of the docking system. My camera was bought before all the docking stuff came out. I have 2 batteries (both bought with the camera about 2 years ago) and I now have to replace them as they are not holding charges long. I did find a website that sold 2 for $40, but they are off-brand. The actual Kodak battery is $40 each. I love my camera and would buy another Kodak again.

That's too bad...!

I just got the Sony DSC P10 , 5 mp. I like it, don't love it. I still prefer my SLR, but I think that is me refusing to change. I aslo develop my pics at Walmart. They do a great job for cheap. My sister has a Kodak Easy share and she loves it. We bought my parents a Sony, because of the price and options on it. I would recommend that you go and hold them and see what fits. Don't let them talk you into an expensive camera. I have 5 mp and my parents have 3, and I can't tell the difference. If you will only be printing snap shots and maybe 8X10, I don't think you need more than 3 mp.
