Digital Camera Memory Card Question

Hi all,
We've got an HP Photosmart 318 camera, and have had it since April, and absolutely love it.
So far, we've just been using the internal memory, but with a Disney trip on the books, we obviously will be needing a memory card...
I'd like to know if anyone can tell me roughly how many pictures can a 64mb CF memory card hold, on the 'best' quality setting, too.

Thanks!

Mark

At best quality, my memory card will hold 4! Yikes!!! I always schlep the laptop and download nightly or more often, if I get back to my room. I also rarely shoot at "best" because of the file sizes.

I do love my digital, it is so much easier to store photos on a CD than in a shoe box.

Happy shutter bugging.

I usually take pictures on the "normal"/default quality setting, which on my camera is fine for prints up to 5x7's. I have a 128 MB memory card, and I think it will hold about 360 pictures on this setting. Unless you want to have 8x10 or larger prints made from your pictures, you might not need the highest quality setting. Hope this helps! :)

It does depend on the settings you use on your camera, but for your camera (it's a 2.0 megapixel, isn't it?), 64MB should give you somewhere around 100 pics (give or take a couple) at the maximum setting (excluding uncompressed settings, if your camera has them).

I can second what Steve said. We have a Fuji 2650 2 megapixel camera and the 64Mb memory card can hold exactly 100 photos at the highest resolution setting. Make sure that you purchase the correct type of memory for your camera. Our Fuji uses the new xD memory sticks and, since they are so new, are not available at too many places and are NEVER on sale.

Thanks for the help:) Sorry, I should have noted that my camera is a 2.3 megapixel resolution.

Mark...I have a Compact flash card in mine, but its a 3.1 pixel camera...64 mb card. Lowest quality will store 528 pics. Middle of the road 145....Best quality around 64 or so. This does not include what the internal memory can hold. I download good ones and dump the card to keep it open for more :) Like Steve said, if your pixels are less on your camera you should get more storage then mine.

Meijer here will print pix off of a memory card for 32 cents a picture--I plan on doing that and emptying my card.

I got this exact same one for Christmas! It came with a 16mb and the store threw in a 32mb. I've been using the 1m setting for regular photos, it's supposed to give 49 pictures on the 16mb. Do you think it's necessary to go to a higher resolution for 4x6 pictures? Have you tried the movie mode? I bet that takes up alot of room.

Debbie,

1 megapixel is good if you are going to be just sharing via the internet. But if you wanted 4x6 prints that you can't tell the difference from regular prints, you would need the 2 megapixel setting. You *could* print 4x6's with the 1 megapixel setting, but it may not come out looking nice...

I'd ditto Jeff's comments -- for printing purposes, use the higher settings. Even with smaller photo sizes, you'll notice a difference in the resolution.

I have only used the 2 megapixel setting on my camera. I purchased mine online and have a 64Mb card to go with the 16Mb card that came with the camera. I guess that my personal perference is quality over quantity. When the 256Mb xD chips are available, I might just have to buy one.

Thanks for the info. I may invest in a 128mb card before my February vacation. I'm not planning on taking my laptop (4 day weekend trip) so I may run out of room. I bought it at Circuit City but they were out of extra cards. They had to order the 32mb, I picked it up yesterday. I'd love to try that movie mode for Spectromagic but I know it takes up alot of room. It might be too dark anyway for it to take.

I have a Hp photo smart 318 and On best quality it holds 69 pictures. hope this helps.
