I'm researching digital cameras, and would love to hear about experiences you all have had with cameras... I'm looking for 5.1 megapixels or higher and am particularly looking at the Kodak 6.1 easyshare and Canon G6. Have any of you tried these particular cameras, and what did you think?

I have a Minolta Dimage S414 which works great for us. My friend has a Kodak and it seems to work really well when I've played around with it. Seemed really user friendly. The 5 megapixels should get you some really great quality photos. And as far as Canon, they are usually very highly rated, so you probably can't go wrong there either. I usually search Amazon for customer reviews and also google it to see if there's any feedback on the 'net. Good luck!!

I have the Kodak E/S DX6490, which is the 4-mp similar to the one you're talking about, and I love mine. We took it to Disney, had no problems at all. My thought is to get a big memory card or get two, we took 2 256-MB cards with us and had 457 pics when we came home (doesn't count the ones I deleted) and had more space on the cards.

I'd vote for the Kodak!

I have this one too, WE LOVE IT!!! Look at the beautiful pic I took from our balcony at the WL (It's much clearer irl!!):

This is zoomed in quite a bit and I have others zoomed in even further . . . THEY CAME OUT BEAUTIFUL!!! You can see EVERY leaf, CLEARLY!! No need for higher than 4.0!!

Beautiful picture, Jackie!

Thanks for the info and advice. I'll be making a decision in the next week or so. I told my dad tonight that I think I've spent as much time picking a camera as I did planning my wedding!!!

Happy New Year!

I too have the Kodak E/S DX6490 bought specifically for our trip a few weeks back-it took amazing photos!!!! It was only the 4 megapixel, but both that particular one and the Kodak 6.1 megapixel come with the Schneider lens which is what really made the difference in photo quality!! GL!

I just got the Kodak EasyShare DX7630 (6.1) for Christmas and I LOVE it! I am definitely no photographer and it takes great pics...even for me! And if I ever DO get into photography, it has all the manual controls. I love the 22 "scene" modes that lets me tell the camera what setting I'm in and it does all the thinking for me. (It even has a fireworks mode which I haven't used yet.) I also like the 2" LCD display, the ability to take several shots at once (burst) and the life of the battery (I've yet to have to recharge it...although it comes with a portable recharger.)

I got mine at Office Depot and at the time they were giving away (after rebates) an Epson Printer, Copier, Scanner which I also love.

Here's a pic I took of my DD at the mall. Please note that the original picture is fantastic and is not at ALL fuzzy. This turned blurry after I uploaded to the website. I highly recommend the Kodak 6.1.

I purchased the Canon G6 from Buydig.com right before Christmas and absolutely love it. I am a tough sell as I absolutely love my Canon EOS Rebel SLR film camera and wanted pictures the same exact quality as well as almost zero lag time between pictures. I LOVE the G6. We tried 2 different Easyshare cameras and I did not get near the picture quality that I was accustomed to. I did also purchase the external flash for the G6 as that way I never have to deal with any type of red eye. Of course this is my personal opinion. But, we are going to Disney in September and I wanted to be able to have a digital camera that I could trust. I definitely feel the G6 is the one. Also was 100.00 cheaper at buydig.com than at Crutchfield. If money is a factor. The one benefit of Crutchfield.com is that you can try out the digital camera for a full 30 days, if you don't like it then you call them and they pay for the return. We tried out three different cameras before finding the G6 that we liked. Good Luck!!

My advice if you want to take night time pictures is to bring a tripod. I took several pics at night but the ones that came out the best is when I leaned the camera on a railing or my son's stroller. If you take the flash off you have to hold the camera STILL. the smallest movement will make the pic fuzzy. What ever you end up doing make sure you get the camera ahead of time so you can mess around with it. Take it outside, bring it when there are fireworks.

I have the Kodak EasyShare DX7590. I LOVE it!!! I am a camera novice but it truly takes amazing pics. It is 10x optical zoom, another feature I love, and it far surpasses the 3x zoom on most cameras. It is 5.0 megapixels, but truthfully I set the camera at 3.1mp so I can get more pics on my memory card. We chose the Dx7590 over the 6490 for one reason really -- it comes with the camera dock for charging and downloading pics, and the other didn't. Good luck!

My 6490 came with the dock for charging and downloading pics!! Believe it or not we got it at COSTCO. It also has the BURST function that another poster mentioned. :cool1:
