We are looking for a digital camera, but not sure which brand we should get. Anyone have any tips? What do you like or not like about your camera? I thought 3 megapixals would be plenty for our needs.(even though more would be nice) I don't want to spend more than $400.(in that range) What else do we need to know? What's with the Kodak dock? Does it store pictures? Or is it the convenience of staying hooked up to your PC and you just put the camera on it and click a button? So many questions, and so little knowledge! Thanks if you can help.

HI,
I just upgraded from a 2mp Canon S100 to a 3 mp Canon S30. I loved the Canon S100 but I wanted more megapixels. I've only had the Canon S30 for a couple of weeks. It's a great camera but I'm really still getting used to it. I researched cameras for 3 weeks before getting one.
These websites (along with Dan Murphy) were very helpful.

www.steves-digicams.com

www.dpreview.com

www.dcresource.com

www.amazon.com

Good luck. Let us know what you decided on.

Just got back from buying an Olympus 720 at Circuit City for our trip in 2 days--guess I"ll be reading the manual on the plane (I know I should have bought it weeks ago but we just decided!). It has 3 mp and an 8x optical zoom--they had another one for the same price with 4mp and a 3x zoom but 3mp is fine for our needs at this time.
I'll let you know how it works after our trip.
BTW Circuit City has a 128MB card on sale for $55.

Thank you. I will be waiting to hear more. Sounds like we are all looking at the same features. Thanks also for the sites. I have looked and researched, but talking to others and their experience is the best.

After a bunch of research and asking opinions, I decided on the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S85. My friends have the S75 which is less, but they paid $100. more for it just 7 months ago. This was on sale last month for $499. That's a bit over your budget I know, but it was just so highly rated, I had to go for it. It has 4.1 MegaPixels, Carl Zeiss optics, rechargeable battery yada, yada, yada. It's my first digital camera, so I still have a bunch to learn. So far it's not user hostile or anything. Now I want a friendly photoshop software.
Good luck.

I also have a Canon, but mine is just a 2 mp. It's a PowerShot A40. We thought about a higher resolution camera, but I don't print photos bigger than 4x6 and 2 mp is just fine for us. I think I paid $280 at Best Buy about 4 months ago. The picture of my DD in my signature was taken with that camera last week.

and love it, i take more pictures now than i ever did before dig cameras. the dock is a rechager, easy way to send pictures to friends, upload to computer thing. i personally prefer my flashcard reader for 20.00 bucks than the dock. i also just bought a hp one at staples. i haven't used it yet but it seems very easy to use.
