Digital camera advice needed.

yeah i was, i think the s2 and s3 sensors are different ( been months since i checked them out and my brain does have a tendency to lose unneeded info..not to mention needed info as well ) but it knew the s2 and a600 were the same which is why i said i didn't know about the elph thanks for clarifying

Well maybe you won't recommend HP cameras based on your experience at Staples, but the editors of PCWorld would tend to disagree with you since three out of the top five point and shoot digital cameras they recommend are HP.

If it wasn't clear from my earlier post, HP offers a decent all around digital camera for the amateur photographer. It takes nice pictures and offers ease of use not only for taking pictures, but as part of your home office. A nice camera for a good price.

I take thousands of pictures primarily of my kids, dogs, outings/events and vacations. For me, the HP has been awesome (and the "quality" just fine ).

What my experience is, is that I see many people with fancy cameras but inevitably they tell me they don't know how to use them.

I really don't want to get into a debate, but I would rather trust real world experience, OR a magazine/reviewer (think Steve's Digicams, Popular Photography) who specialize in just digital photography. I don't even put much stock in PC Magazine, PC World, Computer Shopper, et al, for their reviews of computer parts.

If someone buys a "fancy" camera and doesn't learn how to use it, that's their own stupidity hard at work.

But to each their own, and you go with what works for you.

i agree, some people forget photography isn't a passion for everyone or for some reason some don't want to bother with all the bells and whistles...( my stepfather won't even figure out his new easyshare my mother bought him and still uses his 20+ yr old film camera my daughter just wanted a camera to take pictures of her baby with so she got a nice camera that is basic plus a little more) if the pictures are what someone wants who else really needs to worry about it

Don't do it. Almost every camera store except buydig and maybe 2 or 3 others are ripoff scams. They'll try to force accessory packages, they won't send items, they send you grey market goods(european versions). You'll be really sorry.

It all depends what you are looking for. To me, that picture wouldn't meet the quality I was looking for. (Though it is an interesting picture )

Well, that picture far exceeds the quality I need. I think it's gorgeous.

I have one of those expensive cameras... and If my pictures turn out like that one I would be happy as well. I am an amature with a good camera. An expensive piece of equipement doesn't make one a good photographer. But I am learning and getting better.

I think the good judge needs to lighten up a bit.

I'm not attacking you or the poster of the picture. I'm pointing out if you looked at a larger version of that picture, you would pick up a lot of noise and artifacts which would make it a difficult print at larger size.

We're all here to have a good time and share our opinions, so don't take anything too personal.

Your assumption maybe 100% accurate, but it is still just an assumption.
I assume that the print would be more than acceptable for MOST persons.

I actually saved a copy of the image and played around with upsizing and such. Taking into account that the original full sized file should do even better, I would print it at 8x10 EZ.

I actually saved a copy of the image and played around with upsizing and such. Taking into account that the original full sized file should do even better, I would print it at 8x10 EZ.

Thanks for doing that. For the record, that photo was taken years ago, with a 3.1MP HP camera, using even less MP, in the dark, without a flash, from the top of a trash can, without a tripod, just after a steamy rainstorm. It happens to be one of my favorites. Last time I posted it I received several complementary PMs about it and even a request from someone who wanted to use it for his desktop, so I know there are those who appreciate it even if one particular poster doesn't.

If I took that same picture using one of today's more advanced and higher MP cameras, I expect it would be even better, and easily enlarge to 11X16 or poster size. Perhaps I'll give it a try with my new 5.2MP HP camera next month at WDW.
