Digging for gems

In planning for our January trip we were looking for things to do in SanDiego or near and came across 3 different website for gem digging. Basically i think its scrap piles of dirt from tourmaline mines near, with a chance that you might get a lil piece of gem.. anybody done any of these, worth it or just a tourist trap to get money? Just thought it might be a fun way to spend a few hours....

Just did Gems of Pala you are right . It is not worth wasting your time. If you want to play in dirt and mud then go for it.
