My DD has trouble hearing. We didn't know until recently. She's been in speech for over a year with little progress and now we know why! She's doing very well by reading lips, thank goodness, and she understands!

Do any of you know how to get seating by the signers for BatB? She doesn't know how to sign, but since they always face the audience and don't move around that much, I think my DD could lock onto their mouths easier and enjoy the story more than ever.

Are there signers at all BatB shows?

We head to WDW in 9 days, before our next doctor's appointment. Her hearing will be as-is until the new year.

TIA!

Christy

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

I would suggest that you start by looking at the "disABILITIES FAQ", which is the first item in the threads listing. There are links on Page 3 related to hearing, and information on Page 6 about GACs.

You would probably need to get a GAC to allow for proper seating at shows. In addition, there is information about which shows are inertpreted and when.

Call (407) 824-4321 choose option 0 to speak to a representative (live person) then ask for the Deaf Services Coordinator. It is supposed to be available on a rotating schedule. There are scripts and assistive devices which show the words that are being said or sung.

Just tell them your daughter needs to be seated in the section by the interpreters.

I might also ask, when getting the GAC, if it's possible to ask the interpreters to mouth the English words since it isn't necessarily standard for someone who is signing to do so. (If it's possible, then figure out who you should ask.)

They already do for the most part. You really don't see the interpreters much before the start of the show unless they already know you. Even then it often is only a peek and a wave. Really depends on the show.
