Difficulty finding hotel availability mid-October

Sorry if this topic has been covered but I'm having trouble finding availability and/or decent rates at nearby Anaheim hotels for Oct. 16-19. Anyone know what big events are happening during those dates? We also bought Halloween party tickets for the 17th so now I'm concerned about the crowds. I actually changed our original dates from Columbus Day weekend thinking that there would be heavy crowds as well.

I don't think there's anything "specific" so to speak... There's the UEA break (Utah school break increases crowds), but that's the only "major" thing I could find. It's not a holiday week/weekend. It's not a race weekend or just after... I think, most likely, it's that people are going to be there for the Halloween stuff. You're talking about dates less than 6 weeks out; that's a pretty close time frame, so, for some people coming from out of state or such, they have already booked their rooms a while ago, making potential pickings a bit slimmer.

On a side note, those are the exact dates I'll be there too :)

It is a school break for many CA schools. It's nicknamed "Disneyland Week" in our area.

Now you learned the lesson of book a (cancelable) hotel as soon as you have your dates. Not only does this guarentee you a room, it also will give you the best rates.

Oh, I learned that lesson long ago :) However, a good reminder for the original poster!

We're going the week before you and that has been booked pretty solidly for at least a month now, at least for preferred hotels. October is a pretty on-season time, which we've found that it is essential to get hotels booked as soon as possible. We've had our hotel booked since this past March, but was wanting to upgrade to a bigger room as of recently. When we checked, there was nothing available for a reasonable price in the area surrounding Disneyland.

Hope you're able to find something!

See you there :teeth:

Oooops! I wasn't paying attention, I thought I was quoting the OP. ;) But it is something that everyone needs to learn/remember. I had 2 different reservations for my days in May, since I wasn't sure how long I was staying (funny I ended up in between at 3 days vs the 2 or 4 that I had booked).

Try Booking.com. They have a deluxe 2 queen room at Grand Legacy for $417 for 3 nights (on sale tonight) plus some other hotels you might like.

Thanks for all the replies. I wasn't aware of UEA nor "Disneyland week." We went to the Halloween party this same week last year. This trip did just come up in the last day or two. I happened to mention to DH that the Headless Horseman has finally galloped over to DL and is making an appearance at the Halloween party cavalcade. DH said, "Then let's go." A second after he said this, I got online and bought airline tickets, rented a car, and now looking for a hotel.

We weren't going to go back until Thanksgiving. I was looking into the brand new Hyatt House which offered government rates for all weeks except this one! We may end up staying at what has become our second home, Ayres Hotel.

In all fairness to the OP any week in OCtober can be a school break week since CA, AZ and NV each have some districts that do an OCtober break with inconsistent dates and this can be something that those who live in an area with a more traditional calendar would never know. I also grew up in Ca and never had an october break as a kid. the inconsistent break schedule can also be hard hard to predict. One year it could be fine and then the next a bunch of schools have break then. Im also in Ca and I have an October break but not the week of the 16th this year. It's worth looking at the list of school breaks that is compiled on a threads here in the future before you get you airline reservations.

Worth noting in the future though, October has a lot of school breaks.

Can't speak for all of AZ but I live in Tucson and that's all of our schools' fall break.
Hope you find something nearby and reasonably priced!

I just checked www.hotwire.com for your dates in October and they have quite a few hotels available for pretty good prices. The best one I saw was a 3 star hotel within one mile of Disneyland for 248 dollars for Oct 16-19th.

I had some issues finding a room last year and I went right after Halloween which surprised me. I ended up finding two nights available on AAA and two nights on Orbitz for the same motel/hotel. Try splitting your stay over different sites as rooms (especially discounted ones) may have availability but the days aren't all at one booking site.

I got a great price on a "mystery" hotel from Groupon. With some work I was able to find out it was the Desert Palms Inn & Suites before I purchased. It's a little longer walk than the ones right by Disneyland but for adults I think it's manageable. Good luck.
